If for no other reason than to get a change of location. My cold/death has moved up into my ears, which means things sound weird, and I occasionally don't do the "balance" thing as well as I'm supposed to. My hope is that this is finished tomorrow.
I did work today, so that's something. Maybe I'll even get a successful build instead of randomly having things crash in an unrelated bit of code.
I also finished CCS, and it occurred to me that I'd never seen any art of grown-up Sakura. Still haven't, it seems.
Sakura, using newly changed Clow card to solve the day:
It's convenient I have an anti-penguin-slide-attack card!
Eriol, stage whisper:
Exactly according to plan!
Sakura:
Huh?
Tomoyo:
Oh, Sakura!
Toya:
I hope Yukito doesn't disappear before my sister can convert all the cards and fuel his existence with her magic.
Yukito:
Huh?
Sakura:
Huh?
Toya:
Nothing. Nevermind.
All other characters:
We're mostly just filler.
I mean, I'm still going to watch all of it and enjoy it, I'm just saying that Eriol has to be getting offended that no one (other than Tomoyo, probably) has figured out what's going on.
Ugh. At least the bugs are easy to fix and cosmetic at worst, although ugh. Also double ugh.
The outline worked well, though, and I was able to get parts A and B to output to the same format, which I'm calling a win.
Then I tried to find tiny cans of pop, and ended up going to Target because no place else sells them, I guess. Then home, dinner, and another episode of CardCaptor Sakura. Which led to this:
A relationship graph for all important human characters on the show.
Blue is for friendship, green is for "like-like", and red is for "hates." I'm really unhappy that season three reworked some of the relationship things (redirecting the Sakura-Yukito-Xiaolong triangle; not redirecting the Rika-Terada-san creepfest).
But it gave me an excuse to play with a directed graph library, so that's always fun for the future. It's a bit unstable to initial ordering/edges, but that's fine. Snippet:
#/usr/bin/env python3 import pygraphviz as pgv g = pgv.AGraph(strict=False, directed=True, concentrate=True) char = ['sakura', 'toya', 'yukito', 'xiaolong', 'tomoyo', 'sonomi', 'nadeshiko', 'fujitaka', 'meiling', 'naoko', 'chiharu', 'takashi', 'rika', 'terada-san'] for n in char: g.add_node(n) g.edge_attr['color'] = 'green' g.add_edge('sakura', 'tomoyo', dir='both', color='blue:green') g.add_edge('toya', 'sakura')
g.add_edge('toya', 'xiaolong', color='red')
# etc...
g.draw("/tmp/ccs.png", prog='dot')
Finally, more Bloodstained, where I discovered I need another secret item to upgrade my sword again, which is a pain. I also broke the game and fell out of the map, and then was greeted by "Party Legs" when I got back into the map:
I also finished season 2 of CCS. My livestream thoughts:
"You played right into Sakura's trap, Yue. Making her understand that everyone would forget the people they love the most is exactly the kind of thing that will make her figure out she can beat you. By trying. Really the only way to defeat someone who has that much magical power is to convince her she isn't as strong as she really is.
"Although, to be fair, making Rika and Terada-san forget about each other would really be for the best."
It was super rainy today.
And I cheated and ordered in my groceries. I would be less lazy if it wasn't so cost and time efficient.
It was just too hot this evening. I could probably go back to open windows tomorrow.
Today was a pizza-for-dinner day.
And I solved a bunch of major issues with the new robospect code, so it now actually fits things when I tell it to. There's some double-counting issue to sort out, but the majority of functions should be working now.
I just have to merge it all, and then open tickets for the infinity things that need to be done to make it "done." Still, it's good to know that the main problem to finishing up some of this has been "typos".
Gaussian processes are kind of cool. I was thinking earlier that they might be a more robust way to fit continuum levels.
And when I got home, I watched the episode of CCS where she fights the "Little" card, and the strawberry tart gets eaten before Kero can have his piece.
So he has her do the sensible thing and make him small, so he can enjoy the tiny remaining bit.
I wonder if he was associated with the Scudders who owned the mill (the road I drive on every day). It's about 50 years, prior, though. And "associated," because the past was a horrible place.
Oh crap, I forgot to put leftovers away. And because of that, I can't make a lunch for tomorrow because I didn't start the dishwasher. Ugh.
There's a Smashburger here. It's by the close Target.
It's super greasy, and super delicious, and I hope they get more business because I want them to be open forever. I was the only person in there. One guy came in to get a to-go order, and another couple came in but didn't order. I guess they wanted something more than burgers. Whatever.
In any case, the mainland is apparently all of Alameda's burger places.
And then I came home and watched six episodes of Cardcaptor Sakura, because I've largely worked through my youtube backlog, and I needed something to watch.
If I read this correctly, there's going to be a new chocolate cookie variety to go along with Kinoko-no-yama and Takenoko-no-seto.
It should really be a holiday. Also, I should rip all my DVDs because I couldn't find a pre-made gif, nor could I find the scene I wanted on youtube.
So I have to make due with this screenshot of the destruction of Antarctica.
And a montage of the scene I wanted.
Yeah, it was obviously a cash grab. Even though everyone hates them, and the gate agents are already overloaded before flights, this is another way they can fool people into giving them more money.
This is a sad story, but it at least seems to have a good ending. This should be the ideal for prison outcomes.
It says something that this article was too long for me to bother reading. It's something that I feel I should, just due to the number of memes I skip on tumblr.
But as I was leaving work, I decided that since it's Friday, I'd just drive to Kailua and get tacos at the burrito place. Plus, since there are like three Pokestops there, I could refill my Pokeballs since I've Go+'d them all away. My phone decided, however, that playing music the whole way there was too stressful, and that it didn't have enough power to work anymore.
I was able to get it to boot and stay up long enough to get this picture of the tacos, but it died before I could get a more unwrapped picture.
I think the tacos are better than the burritos. Their rice has a lot of cilantro, and this skips that problem. Of course, now I'm thinking about getting a burrito tomorrow at that pork place. I'm also thinking about going to the museum this weekend. I should probably get a membership, so I can just pop in whenever I feel like it.
My phone was so low that it did this. I don't think I've ever had that pop up before.
Fine, but once we do that, we then have to nationalize the insurance companies. Letting a company earn a profit off of a government service is dumb, as it extracts money from the system that could be used elsewhere in government.
Because why not make my trainer look like I want. It'll take slightly longer to get a slightly bigger team of Pokemon or bag of items. I already have a bunch of items I don't use very fast and a bunch of Pokemon that I have mostly to scroll past.
And I got a medal today, but clicked past the award screen.
Partially because I was on my way back from Safeway with lunch and aleve. I have three options on why, but today was just a mess of aches and pain.
And I caught nine of these driving home today. The Exeggcute hatched from an egg.
Also today I learned that they're making a US movie of Death Note, which is horrible in itself, because DN is garbage about awful trash people. But they're also making it with white people and setting it in Seattle, since this is how they make awful adaptations now. That made me think about Ghost in the Shell again.
Ghost in the Shell is not shit, despite what they're trying to do with it. I've been avoiding stuff about it, since I don't care about this remake, but something struck me that caused me to pull out my copy of the book and start rereading it. The two scenes from this new crap movie they've been pushing everywhere are remakes of this scene from the 1995 movie, and this scene from the 1995 movie.
"Wait. Isn't that water fight scene only in the movie?" was my brain trying to remember the details.
Blah blah, stuff happens, Kusanagi shoots the fire hydrant to disable the bad guy's camouflage.
Some pages left out where she chases the bad guy through a market.
Then this scene where she brain-hacks Togusa to make sure he doesn't kill the bad guy, because they need to bring him in for information.
So yes, the water fight scene is original to the 1995 movie. Oh, and the opening scene where she shoots the guy while falling?
KBOOMPH!
And then there's this.
So a lot of the 1995 scene is original too. This new movie isn't just "a reimagining" or whatever bullshit they're claiming. They're just stealing all the cool stuff from the Mamoru Oshii movie and putting Scarlet Johansson on the posters. I was going to say "what's the point of just remaking something in live action?" but since I was already planning to link to this thread I saw retweeted this evening, I know the answer.
Part of it is the thoughts from this post about villain team-ups. Then I realized that Piccolo is essentially a honorable person, and even Vegeta is too, when you get past the anger issues. So, it makes sense for Goku to forgive them and pal around, even if Piccolo totally killed him once, and Vegeta tried to kill his son. That makes sense because Goku is stupid. He is a well-meaning box of rocks who can hit things.
And I got sushi today. They brought my unagi, and then brought my unagi again. All before getting the miso soup, which I expected to be the first thing to come out, since it's the easiest to make. In any case, I ate double unagi today, because I'm not going to turn down a second plate, especially when I'm not even really sure what else I wanted.
Not Pokemon because I want this link to be first.
The other reason to have double unagi is that it's moderately likely that unagi won't be available to eat in the not-too-distant future.
There is no third link because the thing that was potentially going to be the third link wasn't "that's bad pikachu cosplay." It was "oh, that's just an awful porn that spent like zero dollars on their costume."
My twitter account is set to private, so in order to subscribe, I have to approve it. I almost never get a request, because my tweets aren't really that interesting.
See?
And I reblog stuff, but I also make my own tweets.
Because fuck big bang theory for being such a shitty stupid show.
So it was odd to reload twitter and see I had a request pending.
Ok, I have no idea who this is.
The obvious thing is to click and see what she tweets about.
Ok, I can be onboard with a pro-panda baby tweeter. I like pandas.
But pretty much everything is a retweet. That seems a bit odd. Scroll some more and I see this:
That's some shitty art, huh?
And here's where I go from "wtf cares" to "detective cap on." See, the added information I didn't tell you is that "Jennifer" isn't the first person to request to follow me today. I didn't accept them because they had a bunch of reblogs about stupid shit I didn't care about, including a lot of retweets of a particularly shitty artist.
Derp tiger to reaffirm how shitty this art is.
Two people try to follow me, both of which are posting lots of retweets from a super shitty artist?
I hate you, Leonid Afremov. I hate your stupid art too.
It's possible that there just happen to be two people who really like this shitty artist. A lot of people have crappy taste. Just to be safe, let's google image search her picture:
Ok, only found on a dozen or so pages, most of which are in Cyrillic. LOOKS LEGIT TO ME.
I'm going to let "two people with shitty taste tried to follow me today" be option 1, and say that's not super likely. Option 2 is that Leonid Afremov bought a bunch of fake bot twitter followers to reblog his shitty art at random people on the internet.
I think this is the "objection" pose, though.
How about Detective Conan? I always liked that show.
Wait, they made a Detective Conan/Lupin the Third crossover? Why am I learning this from a google image search?
Especially when I dedicated "this episode of Wonder Woman" to it. Plus I had a units issue with the gravitational constant, blah blah. It's harder than a one or two hour project.
Not impossible, of course, as this 2-body simulation shows.
It also didn't help that I spent most of the day watching youtube and TV, and trying to figure out what I wanted for lunch.
Sushi turned out to be the answer.
I'd also waited so long that the mall was super busy, so parking was harder than usual. There was also some mall event fuckery going on.
I have no clue what this picture is showing, which is why I called it a fuckery.
The line?
The mall is never a fun place to be when it's crowded.
Not yet.
I forgot that it's pi day, and the whole world is going crazy writing digits all over the place. The only things you need to remember most of the time are the song (lyrics with translation):
And that if you need to use pi, most of the time you should just use 4.0 * atan2(1,1), because that's going to give you more precision that you probably need.
I listen to the Jpop station all the time. Sundays are where they play the anime mix, with Dude A and Dude B. When I turned it on as I was heading to Kailua, I heard this:
"Wait, I know that song," I told myself.
"Wait, why do I know this?" I asked.
Because I made a mix-cd fifteen+ years ago that had that as track number 9. ls -alrt * says:

Don't be confused, that's a dummy date from when I transferred a bunch of stuff over. I had this as my DBZ mix earlier than that:

Earlier than that. That's the rip of the mix-cd. To be honest, a lot of those aren't terrible songs. They have a good beat, and when you're making a mix for your diskman so you can get to class on time, that's really the best trait to have.
Basically, when you haven't heard a song for more than a decade, hearing it out of the blue is a weird feeling. I suspect this isn't usually a case, as most people don't listen to niche music from a foreign country.
But then, you hear it fresh, and in a much higher resolution than you heard it on that diskman in early 2000, as you were walking to the bus to take you to your classes for your junior year of college.
It wasn't a super special salad, but it was pretty tasty and reasonably big and filling for lunch.. I think this is going to be my "I feel like having something healthy" place in the future. It's a bit slow, but that's mostly due to the fact that there were a bunch of people inside.
Second thing, when you see lights in the sky that don't move from one day to the next:
It's actually just Venus and Mercury in the evening sky. Mercury is there, but a bit small and hard to see in the image. It's just below Venus.
Third, a bunch of links.
2015 is the year Evangelion takes place. Since waiting for Day of Second Impact to do all the memes would involve a lot of waiting, they're here.
So there's this supercomputer we use. When I was setting things up, I had to chose a place to put the data. I chose the partition that had 1.1 petabytes, assuming that would probably be just fine. I know that things make lots of files, but we transfer everything back from the SC, and have been relying on the fact that there's a kind of "quota" system that deletes old files. A large part of the set up was engineering a solution to that quota deleting files we weren't done with.
Then today I got an email telling me that I'm using 25% of that partition, and although that's in principle fine, the partition is getting full, so maybe I should knock it off a bit.
It turns out that I can make enough output data products fast enough to overwhelm the thing that's there to stop people from filling up the disks. Oops. Sorry, government supercomputer. I'll clean things up.
And this was in the free pile at work today. A German language poster for Princess Mononoke.
And no, I didn't take it, because I'm already super cool.
I thought about formally declaring I was going to boycott Adam Baldwin's stuff, but then I remembered that I don't watch any of his shit anyway. So. Yeah. Still an asshole, though.
