Wednesday: Travel.

Finally back home.

With airport tacos.
My flight was delayed more than an hour, which meant I got back an hour later than expected.  By that point, my groceries had arrived and joined the packages that had been piling up while I was on vacation.
And our Pokemon was still in the gym?
Weird.  Now to get up tomorrow and go to work and be productive again.

Tuesday: Home again.

Up early for school.

Up again on time to get ready for the airport.

To the airport to get tacos and also to fly home.

Yummy yummy tacos.
Home around my usual work time.  Some failed computer stuff to sort out (I should probably upgrade things this weekend to see if that helps).

Dinner.  Grocery delivery.  Catching back up with missed internet stuff.

I should play more goose game.

Saturday: Travel

With ok airport sushi for breakfast.

And the requisite Pokemon raid.
Dinner was not to be spoken of.

Saturday: Flying home, being sick.

Ugh.  We'll see how tomorrow feels.

Breakfast burrito.
 With no cheese? WTF?
Airport pretzel.
It wasn't as good as usual, because it wasn't greasy.

Sunday: Back home.

The flight was fine, and I was able to get tacos at the airport beforehand.
Yummy tacos.
But my train was cancelled, and I didn't want to wait nearly an hour for the next one, so I had to take a car all the way back.  It's probably almost the same price.

Tomorrow is work again.  Ugh.  It's been so long since i had to do work.

Tuesday: Travel

Travel is always crappy.  It's double crappy when you get to the airport and discover the flight is delayed an hour.

And then when that hour delay turns into more than two.

But I got tacos, and even though they all have cilantro, they were all good with a lot of dona.

And the lady waiting next to me had a doggo.
Eventually they let us board, and we eventually took off, and I had a row to myself, so I played Stardew for like 10 days.  It was a good flight in that regard.
Then I took over the gym at the train station.
Then train, car home, and my groceries were waiting for me on the porch.  Unfortunately, it was too late for anyplace to be open so I could get dinner, so it turned into a sandwich day.

I think I'm sleeping in tomorrow, and heading to work for the afternoon meeting.

Saturday: Saturday? I guess so.

Too much travel.

Then yelp lied to me that the close by McD would be open until midnight.  It closes at 10.  There are really no good late night places here.  That's terrible.

I loaded up AC:PC.  I feel like I abandoned them. :(

Breakfast was ok.  The sweet potato fries were cold.  So that's not great.  Also: no hot sauce? WTF?

A travel pillow.
The important thing is that I made it home, and I need to check that I have clothes for tomorrow, and then tomorrow I need to go buy groceries.  That means I probably shouldn't sleep until 4pm.

Wednesday: these pants are blue.

I thought they were black. Nope. Totally blue. Huh.

Anyway, time to fly to San Francisco.

Monday: Home again.

The flight was fine.  I prefer the larger seats, but it wasn't as bad as it has been in the past.  I also perfectly timed my downloaded videos.
I discovered you can ask for bacon on the peanut butter bagel.  It was very good.

Well, this is poorly timed.
Tomorrow is back to work.

Friday: it's always best to spend the day of your flight fighting statistics

In this case, it's my "this doesn't make any sense, I'll just look at the cdf and pull medians" vs "the stuff that doesn't make sense". My method looks more robust, which makes me wonder why the other way is even there.

This is a bad screenshot, but in my defense, I didn't know the egg was going to hatch somebody new.

They're renovating this gate, but I hope they keep the old chandelier.

Monday: Travel.

I had a late flight, so I was able to cram in a bunch of Saga.
I did not finish.
I could have though, but I didn't see that my flight was delayed until I'd already reached the BART station.
Where I discovered you can get a medal for feeding your friends in the gym.
A delay means I could get a sandwich.
Pastrami.

And I had an ok seat.
I wanted to do laundry when I got home, but I'm slowly beginning to think I should just go to bed and do that tomorrow.

Monday: Home again.

Which is unfortunate, but I have a list of things I have to do at work tomorrow.  I am super looking forward to them, too.  A bunch.  So much forward lookings.

In any case, the trip to SFO was largely uneventful, and I was able to zip through security due to the Pre-check thing.  I will object to the one security person telling me that I should go to door 13, because that Pre-check had no line.  That was a lie, and I suspect she knew it.

But I was able to get some pastrami.

And spin some Pokestops and ignore some garbage Pokemon.
And then I had a reasonable flight.  I slept part of it, as I only got like three hours of sleep last night.  The lady I was sitting next to had an injured knee, so she needed a bit of extra time to do stuff.  I was also sitting across the aisle from some guy who was putting together a work presentation about his company's oatmeal business.  "Oatmeal is considered 'beige'", "We're perceived as an unpleasant healthy option (although some of our products are not that healthy)", "The current outlook for the US market is not optimistic."  I salute you, Mr. Hard Truths About Oatmeal Guy.  My final observation was seeing a woman in a pair of jeggings that had pocket patterns printed on, in the absolute pinnacle of shitty pockets.

And then I got home, and decided to get a messy teri burger and cheesy tots.
After I spent an hour unsuccessfully trying to get my new wireless router to actually do port forwarding stuff.  I don't know why this doesn't work for me.  It worked on my ancient router before it was killed by a power surge, but it hasn't on anything since.  I configure everything the way the documentation suggests, but it just eats all the packets, so all the connections time out.  I eventually decided that in the interest of not getting super angry just after getting home, I would just switch everything back to how it was before, and put this off to a weekend project.  I think I'm going to bring my RaspPi home from the office, and see if I can make that do port forwarding correctly.  If so, then it's a configuration error on my side.  If not, then there's some option somewhere that I haven't set correctly.  I didn't see any "don't suck" option.

On the wireless side, it's wonderful, giving me like four times the speed I usually get, just on some random tests.  So I would really like to get this working, ignoring entirely the fact that I need a working router if I'm going to upgrade my home computers to match my actual uses better.

And links are back, partially because I have things I noticed this morning, and partially because I have a bunch of links in tabs I've been saving and need to clear them out.  This ignores the 886 save items in my RSS reader, as I just don't have the energy tonight to sort through those.

  • I never noticed until this morning that Webster at Willie Stargell has a bus priority light.
  • And, in noticing that, I wondered how the transbay bus service works.  It looks like it just does the "into city" or "out of city" routes depending on time of day, and doesn't do a full loop route.
  • Privately held toll lanes are an abomination.
  • LocoL, a restaurant in Oakland.
  • I was not expecting to see a name I recognized in this story.
  • The stupid manual for that stupid router.  I'm sure if I try enough things, I will probably be able to get it to work.
  • My phone decided to update this evening.
  • Julie has meal plans up, even though I don't know that I would like any of those.  The chili would probably be ok.  I've kind of been wanting to make chili for a while now, for no clear reason.

Thursday: travel day.

It is generally going better than it did at Thanksgiving.  Only major issue was getting a slow cab driver and traffic being awful at the loading area because people are dumb.

Apartment flowers.

Airport airport's.
I'm probably going to need a pastrami sandwich when I get in.

Monday: Home again.

Returning home means getting up stupid early.  And I forgot to disable all the backup alarms since I woke up with the first one.  Whoops.

I got another pastrami sandwich.

SFO is generally Team Mystic.  There are a lot of Pokestops, but I didn't spin many of them.
United has a new garbage plane, which switches the standard 777 2-5-2 seating arrangement to a 3-4-3.  This is done by cutting more than an inch off of each seat width, and does little except to give United 11% more possible revenue.  Fuck you, United.
And look at these shitty armrests.  The only bit that's padded is the 8 inch strip at the back of the seat.

But despite this rework there are still magazine holders on the plane.  When was the last time planes had magazines for people to read?  Prior to that, when was the last time a passenger decided to read a grubby pre-read airplane magazine?  Or, to be fair, anyone read a magazine in print format?
I then got to HNL, and went to get cash for my cab ride home.  Unfortunately, something was fucked up with the ATM, which would not let me withdraw any money as I was unable to enter a value that was a multiple of "~MULTIPLE~".  Good job failing to set this value, and good job not checking that a valid value was set.  I mean, this is only super obvious and trivial, but I guess I don't make ATMs, so what do I know.  As a continuation of this, no ATM carries anything but $20s now.  Why is the "how much do you want" screen not just in "how many $20s do you want"?

Then, I had to wait in the cab line, because I guess it's also super hard to look at the arrival screen, and pre-request some cabs to show up when the planes land.  Why is all this simple and obvious shit not implemented?

Finally, I got a cab, and had to basically do the guy's job myself.  Piikoi Street.  It's a main makai-mauka route, and is like 6 lanes wide in the busiest section.  My address is larger than 1000.  Each 100 step in the address denotes a crossing of a large perpendicular street.  So obviously, the cab driver wanted to take Nimitz, which not only would double the trip time, but would start us at the beginning of Piikoi.  We'd have to drive on surface streets to drive even more on surface streets.  "No, take H-1.  Kinau exit."  Shouldn't knowing the city be a prerequisite for being a cab driver?  It got worse when we neared Piikoi, and he wanted to turn right onto Pensacola.  Why?  Because he has no clue how the roads work.  "No.  Turn left at the next light."  "Left?" he asked, pointing his hand right.  "Left!  TURN LEFT HERE!"  Piikoi is one-way at this point.  You cannot turn right from Kinau.  I guess, however, if you aren't clear which way "left" is, then the tricky features of one way streets is beyond you.

Then I went to Target, and everything is more expensive here than it is in California.

I am so far behind on links that I'm going to be putting up a bunch for the foreseeable future.

There's a scheduled filled post coming, but I wanted to make this clear.

Trash Pokemon at the airport.
I should go to airplane mode, since I'm on the plane already.

Sunday: Return home.

Which is always kind of a mixed bag.  It's nice to be back home where it's all my stuff, but it's less fun to leave people in other cities.

Also: SFO needs to fix their security lines.  The premier line was a million people long, and was going at a rate of "good fucking luck."  Here's a short list of problems:
  1. Those stupid backscatter machines don't work.  In the course of not working, they need to be constantly calibrated to not work as efficiently as possible.  This stops all security checks, as they cram everyone through it.
  2. Opting out means you have to wait for fucking ever because even though they have like two dozen people working, they're doing important jobs like "pointing at the line because people are stupid" and "looking over the shoulder of the x-ray guy, because when you have poorly trained morons running that, you need to use twice as many people to get that coveted 4% detection rate" and "these other two workers aren't going to be able to chat with me if I'm not here."  Seriously, fuck all TSA workers.  They're crappy rent-a-cops that have the ability to make people miss flights.
  3. Old people who have never flown before should have to get to the airport four hours early to watch "here's how flying works, since this isn't the goddamn 70s anymore, dummy" videos.  Flying has been deregulated for nearly forty years.  Get with the program.

In any case, due to illness, there was to be no breakfast before leaving for the airport.  Due to shear incompetence of the SFO TSA team, there was to be no pastrami sandwiches at the airport while waiting for the plane to board.  I did get on the plane, boarding with group 4.  I probably could have gotten the pastrami sandwich, but it would have been even more uncomfortably close.  So shitty airplane sandwich then?

I mean, seriously, who fucking puts mayo on a caprese sandwich?  This was not a good sandwich.  I should have gotten pretty much anything else on the menu.
And then plane stuff.  Vroom vroom through the air.
And then a wild Kailua appeared.

Which meant that I could put into motion "Operation Breakfast".  My plan was to recreate this breakfast.

Some things were different, but they were all delicious.

And here's the first pass on clearing rss saved items:

Sunday: Returning home.

I'm super tired, partially due to jet lag, but largely due to the fact that I didn't' sleep much last night.

This didn't help dealing with MCO, which as far as I can tell is an airport run by idiots.  Issues I saw:

  1. The United counters don't open until 4:30 according to their webpage.  The self-check in kiosks open at 4, though, so checking baggage is an ordeal of waiting for impatient people to get out of the way.
  2. Dunkin Donuts doesn't make doughnuts until 5am.  This is by far the largest instance of "WTF?"
  3. TSA supervisor guy Mattheus is a bag of shit.  "Oh I have to scan this again, because it tested positive."  Fuck you and your lies.  I'm reasonably sure this was "I'm going to fuck with you because you opted out."  If you really thought there was an issue, I'm pretty sure "scan it again" wouldn't be the option chosen.  Also: what's the point of scanning it again?  Doesn't that largely admit that any given scan has negligible utility?  Also:  good job not even bothering to come up with a reason to scan my poster tube again.  Jokes on you, however, Shit-bag:  nothing's fucking open at MCO at 4:45am, so it's not like I had a lot of things to do.
  4. Qdoba is open at 4:45am, but after thinking about doughnuts the entire ride to the airport, I didn't want a burrito.

In any case, travelling home sucked because MCO had no food I wanted open, and then I had a super short transfer at IAH, which doesn't really have decent "grab and go" kinds of food.  I bought M&Ms.

And then had an odd sandwich on the plane that only cost like $10.

But I did eventually make it home.
And the limo I took had this dragon statue inside.
 What?
Yep.  Limo from the airport.  Again.
And then I went to get food.
Not shown: unagi and tamago.

I'm hungry again, but I got a WF burrito for this occasion.  Because now I wanted a burrito.
