Wednesday: Quarantine Day 5

Ugh.

Finished the puzzle.

Escorted Cleopatra in to see Caesar.

She made this weird face while they were talking.
Then they betrayed my team.
I guess the other game should have been obvious from this space map.
I hate when games kill off a character, and then give you their named weapon.
Like this.
I've been crafting and upgrading and min-max choosing this entire game.  Now you give me Hepzefa's sword, and it's not as good?  Come on.  Now I have to carry this around like a souvenir.

Although I'm just now noticing that it's "on fire", and I love swinging flaming swords around.

Tuesday: Quarantine Day 4

I'm kind of getting the hang of this now.  It helps that today was day one of our conference, so most of the day was sitting on my couch, watching science on tv.  I've never really used my tv/computer setup for much, but it is perfect for video chat/remote conferences.  I suspect my camera and microphone are bad (because they are), but for things like this, it's far better than staring at a laptop (although of course, I was doing that as well).

Part of the time this one.
Which I named Cleffa for obvious reasons.  It replaces Popplio, which developed a broken left hinge, making it like laptop 4 that I've broken in that specific location.  Cleffa is slightly more powerful than Popplio, and pink instead of purple.

Got more of the puzzle done while making dinner.
Which was Emergency Quarantine Curry Rice.
It's equivalent to regular Curry Rice, except that it's made with 1/2 pound less stew meat than I wanted, two russet potatoes instead of the 4-5 yukon gold, and shallots instead of onions, because that's what got delivered in my order because almost everything was sold out.  I assume that will calm down by this weekend, right?

In any case, I have to go pick up prescriptions on Friday, so I figured that I'd do some manual shopping then.  Of course, it's also supposed to be a high of 78, in March, so yet again, everything just keeps getting worse, and nothing is good, and other unhappy thoughts.

The NPC lady just sat down next to this corpse, because the game doesn't clear bodies.
 So, that's weird.
And then I visited Zeus.
The game is set in Ptolemaic Egypt, so it makes sense to have Greek gods.

  • I should probably read this, so I would understand PSF shapes due to atmospheric turbulence better.
  • Penguins.
  • Yeah.  I think the premise is somewhat flawed.  This was also the height of the Renaissance, which is likely the true cause of both effects.
  • A trillion dollars.  Amazing how as soon as the Democrats aren't in power, Keynesian economics becomes popular, huh?  "Well aware of this history," fuck you, that's because they're the reason people had that impression!

Saturday: Quarantine Day 1

I know it's not technically a quarantine, and I'm seriously thinking about popping down to the grocery store tomorrow to get things to make curry.  But it's still day 1 of staying inside more than usual.

It also didn't hurt that today was Achievement Hunter's 12 hour livestream, since they had to cancel all their live shows.
That was good to have in the background while I pushed on with the puzzle.
The good news is that I have a new third puzzle that I can start when I finish this one.
And I finally figured out what the headless thing I've seen in the nearby list is.

Saturday: Wasted day

Doing nothing.
Except trying the new ramen place.
It's in the plaza with the grocery store that closed, which now has signs up for the new grocery store that's moving in.

The ramen is good, with a different flavor profile than the usual place I go to.  This place isn't technically open yet, but that apparently doesn't mean anything.  If this soft opening is how they do things when they're fully open, I'm going to have to decide which ramen place to go to to get ramen.

And then a few hours putting together more of the puzzle.
Followed by video game stuff.
This is a bit close, lady.

Ok, so this game does have nice views.

Saturday: A good lazy day

With ramen!
Mmmm!
 And puzzles!
It's coming along nicely.
And getting used to new browser settings.  That's less cool, as it requires remembering passwords and dealing with funky "not-quite-right" fonts and things.  Oh well.
It turns out Herodotus has a story in this game as well.  So I completed that.
Also, I saw a quest marker nearby:
Yeah, no.  I'll deal with this after I "finish the game."
I probably only have another hundred hours left to go.

Thursday: I spent an hour and a half trying to convince myself that the program is actually right when it says it's right.

And I think it is?  Maybe?  Or at least is reasonably close to right?  I got hungry and had to go home and sort that out, but I'm cautiously optimistic that it'll be done tomorrow.

I guess all the mandarins have character stickers?

Completed most of the border.  I also have a pile (bottom right) of interior borders where the triptych closed.

Monday: Sleepy

To the point where I fell asleep on the couch this evening.

A happy looking Pokemon.
I got a new puzzle today, too:
All the pieces are the same kind of shape, and I'm not sure if that makes it harder or easier.

Saturday: "And your pal, Friendpatine."

From this joke:

I finally went to see the new Star Wars.  Review after the jump.
And had a banh mi.

I also finished my puzzle:

I've come to the conclusion that separating pieces by shape is a good thing, too.  The names I came up with: A, B, C, 3, 4, X, hook.  A has one pip, B and C have two (with C being the right angle one), 3 and 4 are obvious, and X has zero.  Since hooks need matching hooks, they also need to be considered separately.

But in any case, done.

Friday: I need the weekend to catch up on things.

And I plan on going to see the Star Wars this weekend too.
And there's all this new Pokemon stuff to do.
Plus Stardew updated again, and I still have Assassin's Creed to finish.
And I completed the sky on this puzzle, but still have the ground.
I kind of want to get a new puzzle this weekend, too.

Thursday: Puzzles

There was a raid convenient when I left work today.
And then I got distracted when I got home, and worked on my puzzle.
I completed more of the border and the area around the moon.
I should be able to get it done this weekend.  I color sorted things, and that helped a lot.

Sunday: Hotpot and Puzzles

Central Market lunch.  Plus some initial planning for NYE, as well as for hotpot.
Then some work-adjacent work.  I hate deciding that refactoring would solve a lot of problems.  Even though it probably will, and will make unit tests easier to write.
And delicious hotpot.  At home.
Yum yum yum!

And this dang puzzle:

It's a Bob Ross.
It's made me think about computer vision guided puzzle solvers.  It looks like the first two google results use some sort of edge/shape solver.  My thought was to feed in an image of "pieces" (which would then be segmented) and "goal", with the idea of using cross correlation to identify where each piece should fall on the completed image.  Maybe I'll see about implementing something when I get home.
