Saturday: travel

At least this travel day was somewhat shorter.
Breakfast.

A bunch of not great Pokemon.

Pre flight snack.

It was cloudy in Frankfurt.
I had to rush to make my connection, which want helped by the stupid security crap they have in Europe. I was able to get a better seat.
I had an empty middle section to myself at takeoff.
A (maybe?) Middle School kid moved into my row, because she wanted to have some space from her family. I didn't care, because four seats is more than I can use.  It was nice to be able to use the power outlets. I nearly bought wifi, as it's only 5k miles. I never use them anyway, so I could but WiFi on like 30 flights at that price.
I'm not sure that's a large category.

The two meals were edible.
This flight isn't bad for jet lag, as the takeoff and landing times are basically the same. This makes the flight kind of a long delay, with the outside world suspending during the trip.

Friday: Learning about stuff.

I still don't like snek, but I was able to complete pretty much all of the exercises today that depended on it.  My main problem is that snek isn't helpful when things go wrong.  "Here's a bunch of trace information.  Good luck sorting out the problem!"  Gee, thanks.  I'm also annoyed that the IDE has a lazy way to retain focus.  I had a number of occasions where it'd ignore that I was typing to flash up shortcut crap.  Also it's great that there's no undo, especially since I had a bunch of things get accidentally overwritten due to the weird focus and a conspiring trackpad.

I made the plot, and after doing pixel-by-pixel math, discovered that the model is a bad fit to the data, probably because the data is slightly outside of a completely linear region, so the simple model is increasingly bad.
I guess my main point is that these things are still just tools, and no tool can prevent bad design philosophy, nor can it magically make something simple if it's been made super complicated.

I did have the fun of rushing out this morning after breakfast to try and catch a Mr. Mime.  It turns out there were two waiting for me.

I also did a gym battle, although I was kicked out about ten minutes later.

That's ok, you can forget about all 0 of those tweets.
Mostly packed, and hopefully I'll be able to get a decent seat tomorrow.  United made me check in with Lufthansa, and Lufthansa can't assign seats on my United flight.  United won't let me change those seats because I'm checked in.  I can only re-check in via Lufthansa, which, again, can't assign seats on the United flight.  It's kind of a mess of "how are we possibly operating multinational transportation companies?  We seem to be super-bad at this.  Who is flying?  Bear is flying?  Whaaaaaa?"

Thursday: My talk went fine.

I am super tired right now, though.

Wednesday: Fancy dinner.

I discovered that they have kids shows in France.
This was the Jordanian version of Sesame Street, with Cookie Monster doing a La Miserable parody.

I guess.
Woo.
But really, fancy conference dinner.
A nice big chunk of veal.

Full menu.
Then I had too wait for the bus home.  I had just missed the previous one.
So I waited.

Tuesday: I will always be tired.

I'm also starting to think that my legs will never not hurt, and that I've walked too much with them.  It would probably help if I had brought comfy shoes, as that probably would have stopped a lot of the extra pain.  I guess it's kind of a good thing, since it's all "exercise, I guess".

Today's science stuff was pretty interesting.  I asked at least two questions.  That breaks my long lasting "not asking questions" streak, but I wanted to know stuff.  Mostly scale information, but still.

I toured a data center, too.  It's like ours, but bigger.

Monday: Now I'm super tired.

All my notes from today are science notes, not fun notes.
I just wanted a ham sandwich.  This was exactly what I wanted.

I did not see any squirrels in the park.

Sunday: Cramming all the tourism into one day.

Or at least the best try at it.

Cathedral.

Ruins

Museum.

Different cathedral that I messed up the mosaic for.

Vieux Lyon.

Second museum.

I guess this is a common take on Danae.

Third museum.

Then, later, dinner.
