Tuesday: Quarantine Day 4

I'm kind of getting the hang of this now.  It helps that today was day one of our conference, so most of the day was sitting on my couch, watching science on tv.  I've never really used my tv/computer setup for much, but it is perfect for video chat/remote conferences.  I suspect my camera and microphone are bad (because they are), but for things like this, it's far better than staring at a laptop (although of course, I was doing that as well).

Part of the time this one.
Which I named Cleffa for obvious reasons.  It replaces Popplio, which developed a broken left hinge, making it like laptop 4 that I've broken in that specific location.  Cleffa is slightly more powerful than Popplio, and pink instead of purple.

Got more of the puzzle done while making dinner.
Which was Emergency Quarantine Curry Rice.
It's equivalent to regular Curry Rice, except that it's made with 1/2 pound less stew meat than I wanted, two russet potatoes instead of the 4-5 yukon gold, and shallots instead of onions, because that's what got delivered in my order because almost everything was sold out.  I assume that will calm down by this weekend, right?

In any case, I have to go pick up prescriptions on Friday, so I figured that I'd do some manual shopping then.  Of course, it's also supposed to be a high of 78, in March, so yet again, everything just keeps getting worse, and nothing is good, and other unhappy thoughts.

The NPC lady just sat down next to this corpse, because the game doesn't clear bodies.
 So, that's weird.
And then I visited Zeus.
The game is set in Ptolemaic Egypt, so it makes sense to have Greek gods.

  • I should probably read this, so I would understand PSF shapes due to atmospheric turbulence better.
  • Penguins.
  • Yeah.  I think the premise is somewhat flawed.  This was also the height of the Renaissance, which is likely the true cause of both effects.
  • A trillion dollars.  Amazing how as soon as the Democrats aren't in power, Keynesian economics becomes popular, huh?  "Well aware of this history," fuck you, that's because they're the reason people had that impression!

Friday: Leftovers day

So many leftovers.  So little space in my tummy to cram them in in one sitting.

FINALLY.

Thursday: Thanksgiving

So lots of food.

Some might say too much food.
And I'm coughing, so I've caught the "spending time near kids means you get an upper respiratory infection" plague.

Food was good, though.  I do need to look up how koji works.

  • Koji turkey
  • Mashed potatoes and gravy
  • Cranberry sauce and rolls
  • Mashed honeynut squash with sage brown butter.
  • stuffing
  • Deconstructed green bean casserole, with mushrooms and garlic oil.
  • Smashed potatoes with koji turkey drippings
  • Roasted carrots with koji turkey drippings
  • Brussel sprouts with fish sauce/rice wine vinegar/ancho chili sauce.

Sunday: Three day weekends would be better.

Just from the perspective of having another day to sit at home and do nothing.
I had to go out to get a mailing box to send in my Switch controller, though.  That meant the wonders of wandering the office supply store.
Then home for video games, CW DC shows, and more video games.
And steak for dinner, because they looked good at the store yesterday.
The game made me wait to become anonymous to a bear before I could meditate on the tree.

Monday: Sick day.

I ordered groceries late last night, and they were delivered today at 10:30am.  My phone woke me up, I put things in the fridge, and then went back to bed for another four hours.

Then got clean and took a nap.  And then made food and took a nap.  And now I think I might want to take a nap before going to bed.

The point being, that being sick is actually just shutting your body down so it can fix things.  It kind of sucks, and I feel like I wasted the day instead of doing much of anything for work, but that's how it goes for today.  I'm still not sure about tomorrow, but if I do stay home, I really need to do some sort of work.

I'm super happy I had leftover chili in the freezer so I had a meal ready to go.
It would have been better if I'd remembered to order an avocado, and I also forgot to order arugula for sandwiches at work this week.  Also doritos would have been nice.  Or just some tortillas. I think the point is that I should probably not order groceries late at night while sick.

Sunday: I really enjoy lazy days.

They are the best days.

Gyoza help make days better as well.

And yummy katsudon is good too.
And then I got groceries, came home, and did nothing all day long.
I also decided that I could probably use the garlic noodles recipe as a base and add veggies and some sausage to make it a more complete meal.
It was super delicious, and I have leftovers for lunch tomorrow too.

Sunday: My other bedroom is mostly organized now.

I still need another bookshelf, I think, though.  Or I need to cull down the books I have.

Reading about big drippy cheeseburgers on Friday put me into a mood.
A mood for a big drippy cheeseburger.  This one worked, but it was really queso fries that did it.

Gochujang pork belly, with asparagus and added mushrooms and onions.
I suspect zucchini would work in this dish as well.  Part of the logic was to pretend it's more healthy than just eating a big bunch of pork belly.

Now I need to figure out how to get iridium in stardew.

Saturday: That was the first time I've ever had a pan catch fire.

It wasn't that bad, and a quick clamp with a lid stopped it.  Whoops.

The steak came out ok, though.
But earlier in the day I went and got groceries and had late breakfast.
Yum yum late breakfast!

Memorial Day: No moderation.

I woke up later than I wanted, but was able to put the pork butt into the oven.  That meant that I spent all day waiting as my apartment slowly filled with delicious smells.  That made me hungry all day.

It came out pretty good in the end.
I got confused while wrapping it, and the fatty side ended up on the bottom.  This meant the top (where I pulled the pork for my sandwiches) wasn't as good as I had hoped.  Later, when it had cooled some and I was putting it into a container, I ate some of the fatty bits, and they were super good.
I also made some bbq sauce, but it's not quite as good as I'd hoped.
I also got second place in the Stardew Valley harvest festival thing, which I suspect is the best I could have done.  I then discovered that one of the games is rigged, so I could buy all the cool rewards.

Wednesday: pdb.set_trace = lambda: None

Apparently that's the way to force your code to skip all the remaining debug breakpoints  It'd be nice if "clear" worked, but whatever.  "continue 9999" would also be great.

Routine gym takeover.
And despite it being late, I did the whole "make dinner" thing.
Garlic noodles.  I think I've sorted out the recipe, which is nice because it's just "a gob of butter, a bunch of garlic paste, one teaspoon of everything else, as much parmesan as you can stand."  The arugula really helps, as the peppery flavor cuts through the garlicy goodness.  I'm also happy Target sells pre-cooked frozen shrimp, so I could claim this was a proper full meal.

Sunday, March 17, 2019

Sunday: Today was pretty much all about food.

Going to get food, eating food (picture of pizza here), buying mushrooms and lamb, going home to make food, making food, eating food again,
Shepherd's pie.
deciding the food wasn't as good as it could be, and then draining all the liquid to make it into gravy, because gravy makes all food better, prepping lunch tomorrow with the newly made food, etc.

Sunday: KBBQ and snow.

I woke up late, but that's ok, I had no major plans for the day.  Except to make KBBQ.
It turns out that bulgogi is super easy to make.
I used a non-stick pan, because I had very thin tenderloin, but I think the flank was better for this.  I used the mushrooms to clean up the burnt bulgogi sauce, which made them super tasty as well.  I think next time I do this, I should get some pork belly as well.

And now it's snowing, but work isn't cancelled yet.  I'm still hoping for a day off.

  • I can now close the tab I've had with the recipe in it for months.
  • The thing I was missing, and didn't figure out until after, was a dipping sauce.  I had thought about making ssamjang, but I think I just want the oil and salt sauce that GogiTime had.
  • Pokemon food.
  • Snow.

Tuesday, February 19, 2019

Tuesday: It's supposed to snow tomorrow.

Enough so that the morning Google alarm explicitly mentioned that "It's going to snow tomorrow."  I don't think I've had a future warning like that before.

Today's steak was the best steak.
Higher temperature was the right thing to do, and then making a sauce by thickening some vermouth and butter helped as well.

  • Barbie will be an astronomer.
  • Furret is huge.
  • Maps.
  • This doesn't surprise me much.  The Pali is a bit sketchy on the best days.
  • I guess I just have to find the element containing "overflow", and deleting that will allow me to get my scrollbars back (defeating yet another anti-ad-block strategy).

Sunday: I already feel a bit better.

So that's good.  I then spent all day today doing absolutely nothing.

My only real goal for the day was to have dinner.
It turns out that the Korean grocery store does have the best meat around.  I haven't had a steak this good in a while.
And, because they came in a two pack, I have one to eat tomorrow as well.

Sunday: Chili day

All sorts of stuff to put in it.
Pork belly has become my default pork product, it seems.
I also added some corn and macaroni, because I got tired of waiting for it to reduce.

Sunday: The laziest day ever.

Which is fun, even if it's not technically productive.

I did make pork belly.

Later on, games.

Sunday: Donk.

Woke up, wanted lunch, and had no idea what I wanted for lunch.  Eventually made a decision, drove there, and decided to be boring and try someplace old because the new place looked kind of sketchy.

Then I went to Target, bought more than I needed, came home, and felt compelled to clean things.  So I vacuumed, cleaned the bathroom, and took out the trash and recycling.

And, a few hours later, I discovered that I might have thrown out something I needed, so I got to go look in the dumpster for my trash, only to not find it because other people dumped their trash on top of it.  So that means I get to make a phone call tomorrow because health insurance is run by idiots, and things are needlessly complicated for dumb reasons.  Donk.

I also sat down and made stuffing, using only:

  1. Sausage.
  2. A Panera sourdough breadbowl bread I cut up into bits.
  3. Carrot.
  4. Onion.
  5. Celery.
  6. Chicken broth.
  7. Sage.
  8. Miso.
It turns out that miso might just be magical.
It has far more flavor than it should.  The miso adds all the umami that you really need to boost flavors.  I only added the miso to this serving, in case it didn't work well, but I could mix it in with the rest.  I also need to use smaller bread bits, because there's no gelling at all.

And then I watched Supergirl, which I'm a bit "meh" on, because if Melissa Benoist is just going to take half the season off, they should have just pushed the season back.  Instead, we got a filler episode about why the space-racist bad guy is so space-racist.  Spoiler: because he sucks, and who the fuck cares, it's 2018: we don't normalize bigots now.

  • This is technically a security hole, but all of my Roku things are isolated on the local network.  I probably should make an program to do all of these things.
  • The discovery of the sky.
  • Myth of Er.
  • I would really like a single player mode.  I'm ok being either "always dead because the other team is super good" or "somehow leading in kills with my healing/shield character because everyone else is super bad," but it'd be nice to be able to just do a story thing.

Tuesday: So close to having this project work.

I have something wrong with a parity, and I think that is basically it.  Then more documentation and some more testing, and then convincing people my way is better.

Are they rolling out new Pokemon slowly?  If not, they really should.

I made the gochujang pork again today.  It came out super spicy.
And I have two lunches already packed, and have a third ready to go if I decide to do that on Friday.

Wednesday: Cooking.

Also making Animal Crossing friends.

But mostly cooking.  Today we made pumpkin pie, butternut squash soup, green bean casserole, and stuffing.  The apple pie is still under construction, and the turkey is prepped for tomorrow.

I also had delicious garlic noodles.  I am a big fan of the garlic noodles.
