Saturday: Whoops, I stayed up until 4 again.

And I finished my book, with three days left on this trip.  I was fooled by the baddies, I didn't see one plot twist coming, and my anticipated end played out as I feared.

I cannot wait for the next book in the series.  I have so many unresolved questions that I want answers to.

Finally evolved that jerk.

Austin Night Market.
It was super busy, and none of the booths seemed to be ready for the lines.

Friday: I probably shouldn't have stayed up until 4 reading, but

At least now I know the secret backstory that the book has been keeping, and I have a pretty good idea who the good guys are.  Not bad for there only being ~50 pages left.  The fact that the good guys are who I was hoping they'd be isn't bad either.

Detecting the character that was truly a necromantic construct in their first appearance?  That was a combination of careful reading and dumb luck.

I'm also almost done with this jerk, too.

Tuesday: New rule: no playing Stardew until 6am.

Which I wouldn't have had to do if Marnie would have just gone to work one dang day and sold me a stupid chicken.  But nope!  She decided to take two days off, and then go to the Flower Dance, and not sell me anything to put in my stupid empty coop THAT I BUILT LIKE FOUR DAYS AGO, MARNIE.

But yeah, I probably shouldn't play for that long again.

The problem with getting a book delivered is that I now have to decide if I want to read it all right now, or save it for my travel book for when I visit Austin.

  • And I finished my Crunchyroll show, and WTF, Bell's grandfather was actually Zeus in disguise? WTAF?
  • Ellsworth Kelly stamps.  They didn't have any at the post office when I went there to pick up a package today.
  • Some neural nets can be thought of as differential equations, and those can be thought of as classical mechanics.
  • Geometry.

Friday: Ugh.

I think this week felt harder because I didn't bring coffee every day.  Plus parking was worse.  And no one was in.

I did finish "To Be Taught, If Fortunate," which is another wonderful book by Becky Chambers.  I hope there isn't a very long wait until the next one.  Although I think I have two more preordered books arriving next week.

I went to the museum a few years ago.

Monday: I think this technically means I've beaten the game.

Although I think I have to go for 100% completion.  I kind of wish it had a NewGame+, so I could carry over some stuff (like, even just my greenhouse would be nice) and start kind of fresh, but I think I'll just stick with my main game.

Besides, I'd kind of feel weird about marrying someone else now.  On that topic:
I finally got married in SV, beating the end of year two by one week.

I think someone should have told my new wife, however.

"Yeah, sure!" And then I ran off to reorganize the greenhouse and plan out the farm for the next year.  Then: fishing and clearing the quarry.

Oh.  OH.  OOOHHHHHH!  😲
 I wasn't expecting that.  Another thing I wasn't expecting:
WHAT?

WHAT!?!?!  I'm married, Abigail!  I have a purple star when I talk to my wife, which I'm pretty sure means that she's still in to me.
Let's check in on the other main married family in town.
Um

wow.  I somehow don't think Demetrius has the purple star going for him.

JFC, Demetrius!  Does anyone in your family not hate you?

Good to see you're taking things seriously.  Are you even in charge of the trees and rocks in public?  I assume the mayor would make the rules about that.

Then, on the first day of the new year, after giving me that blushing wink face above, Leah ambushed me as I was leaving our house.
The Art Show!
The Art Show!
The Art Show!

I knew she had an art show event that triggers after you reach an N-heart relationship.  I guess the show can only happen when it isn't winter, so if you turn on all the dating things to rush your relationship before the end of year two, you get things out of order, and the Art Show happens after you get married.  Which leads to the weird ambush.  And this letter:
"Leah!" I shouted from outside.  "I was right there!  You couldn't have told me this while we were having breakfast?"
Nope.  Because the game assumes we didn't just have breakfast.  In any case, I then went on my way to do some fishing at the river.
Where I was again ambushed by my wife into a surprise picnic.
Where her ex showed up, telling her she should leave town and go back to the city.  Excuse me, Jerkface, but we're married now, and I'm committed to keeping that purple star.  I punched Jerkface out, and then Leah said we should flee the scene of the crime, but that we should find someplace "more private".
You know we're married, right?

Sunday: I think after powering myself with coffee for 70% of last week, I'm super sleepy because I'm not full of caffeine.

But taking these two days to do as little as possible has been good.
I even took over a gym, and now have enough poke money to buy a new upgrade.

Friday: "Beep beep, I'm a sheep!"

I finished up the things I wanted to get done for this week today, and then missed the email telling me about my Scipy travel from the travel office, so I need to call them tomorrow and see if I need to do something, or if it'll just stay mostly-reserved until Monday.
I did not catch the fancy bird.
There's Godzilla stuff happening, and that made me look up to see if it was streaming, and google said it only was if I paid money, but my TV found a channel that had it to stream with ads.
Godzilla: Final War is exactly the kind of Godzilla movie I wanted.
And then I finished Magic for Liars, which is the best book I've read in a long time.
I just wish Sarah Gailey wrote faster so I didn't have to wait a year.

Tuesday: It shouldn't be this hard.

I wanted to pick up some miso yesterday, so I could make a quick miso-ginger dressing to go with my tonkatsu.  However, the Korean market only had a Korean version (which a google search told me has different ingredients and taste).  Then, both of the other grocery stores I went past on the way home were closed, because 8pm is too late for groceries.  I already knew that Wegmans and Target both don't have miso, so I went with the next best option:  I asked Amazon.

And they overnighted me some for about the limit of what I'm willing to pay.
Plus I have the new Ryan North book to start reading.  A good thing, because I've finished all of the Charlie Stross ebooks I've been reading for the past five months.

Thursday: That was a horrible news story, and I'm not going to link to it.

I finally brought my work books home.
Ish.  I left them in the trunk because I didn't want to repack them.

Also, WTF, Foodland guy?

Sunday: A plan.

To get pancakes.
It was a success.
But I need to clean more.  And throw out more.  And generally get prepared to move more.

I am about half way finished with Wrinkle in Time.  I have no idea why the reviews are so bad for the movie.  It's basically following the book with only minor changes.  They live in town instead out in the middle of nowhere.  Oprah is big instead of invisible.  Reese Witherspoon turns into a big plant glider instead of a not-centaur (despite the thing on the cover being basically a centaur).  Meg throws a ball at a girl's face instead of tackling a boy.  These are not major changes.

Monday: Waking up early is no fun.

We should all agree that mornings are bad, and that we should ignore them.

I didn't take any pictures today, but looking though my history tells me that six years ago I made a very fall veggie/beef soup, four years ago I had a Mexican Coke in Austin, and two years ago I had a Mexican Coke in Alameda.

And eleven years ago, I took a picture of my rose bush.
That was rotated correctly when I previewed it, and I'm too tired to bother sorting it out.

Tuesday: Work from home day.

Because they're refinishing floors at work, and today is the day that my office is completely cut off due to that work.  Which is fine, I can do most things without problem at home.  Doing things that require visualizations is a bit hard, but I can put of most of that until tomorrow.  Today was mostly spent trying to figure out why I filled up a disk yesterday.  The answer?  This code generates a set of files that are only cleaned up if something else succeeds.  Even if that does happen, only 2/3 of the files are cleaned up.  Since the generation and use are decoupled so much, I just added a fixed cleanup phase at the end of the loop.

Then coded a thing, and ran some data organization stuff.  And read some papers, neither of which were sufficiently interesting.  I also spent way longer than expected this evening reading up on R.

I also woke up super early, and so completed reading American Gods at roughly the same time I did the first time, although that time I was approaching that time from the other direction.  My conclusion is that I should read it more often than once every 13+ years.  I'd forgotten a lot of the details, and my sparse plot structure missed out on a lot of points.  I suspect finishing it at 5AM last time complicated that.  I also started reading Anansi Boys, which surprised me by having a photograph and Christmas card from 2005-2006.  I need to stop hiding things in books.

And since it was a work from home day:
It was a drive to get lunch day.
I only ate half the sandwich, and saved the second half for dinner.  With a side of mac&cheese.  Soup+salad+sandwich was more filling than I had planned.

And it's clear no one young and cool goes to Dole Plantation.  Cloyster is still sitting there.
