Wednesday: Q19/What a difference one 20' ethernet cable makes.

I was finally able to arrange and plug in my work computer, and for the hour I worked on it, I accomplished more than I think I have otherwise this week.  Yay some form of productivity!

I also used my exercise bike today for the first time in too long to admit.

And cooked some tacos!

They were tasty tacos.

I also got a delivery of macadamia nuts that I had ordered under the assumption that we'd be able to return to work and normal fairly soon, and so I was going to bring them in to work for my snack pile.
I guess I'm not sharing these.  I'll have to order some more.

Wednesday: Travel

Travel is never lots of fun.
Airport monte cristo isn't great.
How do you remove all flavor from something that's just sugar + salt + fat?
Arrival tacos helped.
This guy's back?
Huh.  What?

Tuesday: Home again.

And I had tacos at the airport.
And got home early, got groceries, got dinner, and then spent too long watching youtube videos in an attempt to get caught up.

Wednesday: Travel.

Finally back home.

With airport tacos.
My flight was delayed more than an hour, which meant I got back an hour later than expected.  By that point, my groceries had arrived and joined the packages that had been piling up while I was on vacation.
And our Pokemon was still in the gym?
Weird.  Now to get up tomorrow and go to work and be productive again.

Tuesday: Home again.

Up early for school.

Up again on time to get ready for the airport.

To the airport to get tacos and also to fly home.

Yummy yummy tacos.
Home around my usual work time.  Some failed computer stuff to sort out (I should probably upgrade things this weekend to see if that helps).

Dinner.  Grocery delivery.  Catching back up with missed internet stuff.

I should play more goose game.

Tuesday: Travel

Travel is always crappy.  It's double crappy when you get to the airport and discover the flight is delayed an hour.

And then when that hour delay turns into more than two.

But I got tacos, and even though they all have cilantro, they were all good with a lot of dona.

And the lady waiting next to me had a doggo.
Eventually they let us board, and we eventually took off, and I had a row to myself, so I played Stardew for like 10 days.  It was a good flight in that regard.
Then I took over the gym at the train station.
Then train, car home, and my groceries were waiting for me on the porch.  Unfortunately, it was too late for anyplace to be open so I could get dinner, so it turned into a sandwich day.

I think I'm sleeping in tomorrow, and heading to work for the afternoon meeting.

Saturday: A good day

Always Pokemon.

Delicious chicharrones tacos.

This game seems like it'd either be way too simple or way too hard, with no in between.

Pandemic Rising Tide is a nice change from the other version.

Tuesday: This has not been the most productive work-vacation.

Which I guess means I should probably focus on the vacation part.
Such as tacos.

Delicious delicious tacos.

And Pokemon.
Of course, now my laptop has decided to be a butt, and isn't charging the battery.  Should I just buy a new one of these, given that this one has lasted two years and cost $200?  $8 / month isn't awful.

Sunday: My goal for today was to swap roombas at work and home, and make tacos.

I did both of these, so even though I didn't get up until late, it all worked out ok.

I also took down the gym by work.

And I was hungry when I was coming home, so I stopped to get Panera.

Which didn't stop me from making tacos.
I even finished Donut County, which is a bit sad.  I want more easy and funny puzzle games.

Sunday: flight delays

Like two hours of flight delays.  The good news is that I did see Julie before flying out.  The bad news is that I didn't get to get the same ride to the airport.  Oh well.

It gave me time to get tacos.
Sausage tacos are best.

And catch this guy.
And then my flight went well, I caught a convenient train, my car started when I went out to get dinner, and my groceries arrived without any trouble.  Grocery delivery is both super useful and easy, and super lazy.

Wednesday: Back to work, but successfully this time.

Today's talk went reasonably well, and then I solved two problems in the "quick and hacky" way, so I can hopefully get proper full solutions by next week.

And then I made lots of taco meat and rice, so I think I'm taking tacos to work tomorrow.

Saturday: home.

It's been a while.  Also: I'm super sick, and my entire head hurts all the time.  It's pretty horrible.  I tried to stop by the CVS quick clinic thing, but that closes at 5:30.  I got there at 5:38.  :(  I'll try tomorrow.  I could probably do the online thing, but I'm hoping if I go tomorrow I can just pick up medicine to fix things at the same time.

I did get tacos before I left, but my steak wasn't steak.

These sum up their differences.

Tuesday: Today is when I remembered I have a freezer, but forgot I don't have a microwave.

Which works out to a wash, I think.  In any case, I got tired of my old leftovers, and had the idea to make tacos.  So I could put the old leftovers into the freezer, but I have no easy way to reheat my leftover taco stuff tomorrow.

But I had yummy tacos.
Baby lettuce, oven dried tomatoes, avocado, cheese, salsa, tortilla chips all mushed up, taco meat (using this seasoning still, even though I have to look it up every time I use it), all squished into tortillas.  I eventually got lazy, mixed everything up in the bowl, and then just spooned stuff into the tortillas (with the lettuce done separately).  It was good.  And I have a batch made up for tomorrow's lunch, so I'm looking forward to that.

Saturday: Procrastinating.

Specifically, in finishing my talk for Monday.  In any case, the plan for the day was to see a movie.  Specifically the one at 2pm.  So I got up at 12:30, and still was too late.
As shown by the intact ticket and ebi fry.
"Why do they have a 2pm and a 3pm showing?  This movie isn't going to be that popular."  Nope, it isn't.  But the 3pm showing has open captions, for people with hearing problems.  Whatever, I do subtitled movies all the time, this is the same thing, but I can read faster than they can talk.

Anyway, Professor Marston and His Wonder Women.  About William Moulton Marston (who invented Wonder Woman), his wife, and the student that came to live with them and had two of his children.  I hadn't heard much about this, other than its existence, so I went in with no expectations.  It's...complicated.  On the good side, it presents all three of them as progressive and modern, and just wanting to live their lives the way they wanted, without problems.  And also invent a major comic book character to pay the bills.  That's fine, but within the first 15-30 minutes, there's a scene where Elizabeth (the wife) and William agree that they should open the relationship to include Olive (the student).  But that's not how it happens in Jill Lapore's book, where William basically says, "this is happening now.  Get ok with it or leave," to Elizabeth.

When I got home, I did a quick google search, and it turns out Marston's granddaughter isn't super happy with the movie, because they basically made up a lot of the story.  It's not a terrible story that they made up, but you can't really do that about real people.  Like this review says, they really should have mentioned the stuff-making-up part.

And there were only like 12 people in the theater, with an average age of like 70.

Afterwards, I wasn't quite hungry, and I didn't really have a plan, so I ended up driving the long way to Kailua.

And got tacos.
Then I came home, took out the trash, and vacuumed.  Really wasn't into working on this talk.  I at least have the figures sorted out.

Friday: I felt like tacos.

I left work, not quite sure what to do for dinner, and thought "I should just pick up something quick."  So then I drove to Kailua for tacos.

Because that's totally quick.

Friday: I really wanted tacos.

I didn't get a good look at it, but it was real, and it was great, and everyday should have dogs at work.

And my phone did this crap when I was getting lunch.  Not cool, phone.
That's just further evidence that I should get a new phone, I guess.  It sounds like next week there might be an update of my current phone, which is probably way thinner and faster and all that.

Anyway, back to tacos.  Julie's post yesterday with the taco picture made me really want tacos all day.  So I drove all the way over to Kailua to get tacos for dinner.

I usually get the barbacoa, but I got one regular steak today.  That's actually much better, with a richer flavor that I wanted from the barbacoa.  It's also less messy, as it doesn't have as much juice.
Also I wanted guac, but they put soap weed in their guac, so it's good that I asked beforehand.  Mostly I just really wanted that bacon and avocado taco Julie had.  I want that so much.

  • Julie just asked about this yesterday, and my response was "I saw a thing about spicer, but I think it was a tweet or something.  So maybe? But not officially?  I would not be surprised by them half-assing getting rid of somebody."  He quit, because they kind of half-assed it by surprise hiring a new guy that nobody likes.
  • I love this meme.
  • Squirrel.
  • "Well then, I'm off to Switzerland."

Friday: I decided I wanted tacos for dinner.

But as I was leaving work, I decided that since it's Friday, I'd just drive to Kailua and get tacos at the burrito place.  Plus, since there are like three Pokestops there, I could refill my Pokeballs since I've Go+'d them all away.  My phone decided, however, that playing music the whole way there was too stressful, and that it didn't have enough power to work anymore.
I was able to get it to boot and stay up long enough to get this picture of the tacos, but it died before I could get a more unwrapped picture.
I think the tacos are better than the burritos.  Their rice has a lot of cilantro, and this skips that problem.  Of course, now I'm thinking about getting a burrito tomorrow at that pork place.  I'm also thinking about going to the museum this weekend.  I should probably get a membership, so I can just pop in whenever I feel like it.

I mean.

Wednesday: more work day.

And this jerk.
Also: there were tacos. Tacos are great.

Wednesday, November 11, 2015

Wednesday: Today is a holiday.

Which I spent doing basically nothing.  I decided I wanted a burrito, and started to drive over the Pali to the place in Kailua.  Unfortunately, there was an accident on the Pali, and it was crazy backed up.  "No problem, I'll go to the other, not quite as good burrito place in Kaimuki."  Double unfortunately, I saw earlier that the Pali on-ramp onto H-1 was gridlock, so I decided to do the trip on surface streets.  This was probably a mistake since it took a half hour.

Also it wasn't that great and the queso was super separated.

  • Steven Universe.
  • Marnie.
  • Red panda.
  • Star Wars.
  • This is definitely a problem, and the only actual solution is more funding for education and research, which isn't going to happen as long as people are dumb.  Alternatively, we could have a national guaranteed income, which also isn't going to happen as long as people are dumb.
  • In related news, Kansas is going to continue to be screwed because they vote for dumb people.  Or, alternatively, people who aren't dumb, but are actively malicious.
  • In more related news, Kentucky is also going to be screwed because they did vote for someone who is actively malicious.  To the point where people are likely to die because they voted for someone who campaigned on letting them die.  People should stop being dumb.
  • In terms of me being dumb, I should give up the notion that Agents of Shield is ever going to be the good show I want it to be.  They're always going to keep wasting time with Hydra, because Hydra is made of people, and people are cheap to put on TV.  A monster-of-the-week show with fun team action would require lots of special effects, and that would be expensive.  It also sucks that they keep trying to make everyone overcome tragic challenges, which is pretty much the exact opposite of "fun team action."  It doesn't help that there are like eight ten (colson, lab-guy, lab-girl, shaky-mutant, big guy, super spy, mockingbird, british guy.  No, eight, had it right the first time) main characters, so they have to split time on characters I don't care about (I'm looking at you, British guy).
    • And this is probably part of why I liked Agent Carter more.  Fewer characters.  Carter, British guy (but cool and funny), Stark (who's mostly there in name only), cop guy, other cop guy, boss cop guy.  See?  All the cop guys blend together.  Sure, one is limpy cop guy and the other one is supposed-to-be-love-interest cop guy, but there's a much tighter focus on the characters that are actually interesting.
