Tuesday: More work work

Where I don't quite believe the algorithms being used for things.  Ugh.

A happy buzzy bee.

Wednesday: An actual work day.

Tomorrow I should go through review comments, and do the fixes and make it work.  It also feels weird that today was the one week point.  I really wish companies were actually working on VR telepresence that was usable.

Most of the work was done at Epoch, where I saw this really nice crow.

Later, Giratina.
And I also had some time to catch that last damn fish and get a regrade in Stardew:
Yeah.  Three donking fish and I'm only 3/4 candles.

And the whole town was happy I finished the community center.

And I got an award.  There was also a fight.

Resulting in Pierre opening his store for every day, as he now owns the product monopoly.

And second place.  Again.

Thursday: This week feels fake, because I'm leaving next week.

Also a lot of people seem to be out?  Whatever.

Neighborhood bunny.

Tuesday: Still tired.

Plus, I saw an injured fox on my way home, and that kind of ruined my evening.

I used a lure today.
But none of them were new.

Monday: Labor Day

I probably should have done more today, but I didn't.  I did go out and buy a new flushy-pluggy thing for my toilet, as it's been leaking and periodically not flushing correctly.  Hopefully the new one will be better.  I also bought like $15 of batteries, so I could change the one in my multimeter, change the one in my car key, and potentially see if I can get one of my go+ to work.

I then played a bunch of Assassin's Creed, where I've decided to use the strategy of "shoot baddies with arrows until they die" for most of my attacks.  I'd have pictures here, but the xbox upload thing is super lazy.

So here's a turtle picture from last week instead.
Tomorrow is "fix my brakes" day, and I think I'm going to work from home afterwards.  Kind of almost four day weekend?

Tuesday: I wish my ears would stop clicking.

It's the "there's still gunk, so swallowing makes clicky sound" issue.  It sucks.

This moth has been outside for the past two days.

Tuesday: "it’s not a special forces attack paras."

Second day of the conference, but the first with real sessions.  Plenaries, a session about the educational outreach (which I should probably sent suggestions and code pointers for), one on how we're going to handle calibration products (sanely), and one about calibration (which had no chairs).

Then there was the "banquet", which I ditched out of early because it was hot, loud, and full of people.

I saw a lizard as I was leaving.
I then took a quick nap, and then looked into how hard it would be to code up some simple cuts and cleaning for PS1DR2 data.
Turns out, pretty easy.
I didn't implement a background source removal, but that's not super-too-hard to do (generate likely contamination probabilities by comparing source counts per sky area per plot area, and then selectively show sources depending on that probability).  Also, white dwarfs are more orders of magnitude fainter than I remembered.

Sunday: I still need to pack some

But I have to wait for the dumb dryer to finish.  And then get to sleep early so I can wake up crazy early for the trip to Baltimore.  At least I don't need to drive the whole way, so I can probably sleep some.  I think we probably should have tried to leave today instead.

I felt like pizza today, and I've had garlic breath ever since.
I didn't post a picture of the hallway turtle from last week?  What?

  • I want sushi now.
  • It turns out that there is a way to get all the tabs currently loaded in chrome, but you have to enable the feature first.

Wednesday: Every place should take credit cards

I mean, it's 2019.  It's literally just a USB device and an internet connection.  The Girl Scouts take credit cards for cookies.  I guess I have to find a replacement place.

Five year ago turtles.

Tuesday: Travel

Travel is always crappy.  It's double crappy when you get to the airport and discover the flight is delayed an hour.

And then when that hour delay turns into more than two.

But I got tacos, and even though they all have cilantro, they were all good with a lot of dona.

And the lady waiting next to me had a doggo.
Eventually they let us board, and we eventually took off, and I had a row to myself, so I played Stardew for like 10 days.  It was a good flight in that regard.
Then I took over the gym at the train station.
Then train, car home, and my groceries were waiting for me on the porch.  Unfortunately, it was too late for anyplace to be open so I could get dinner, so it turned into a sandwich day.

I think I'm sleeping in tomorrow, and heading to work for the afternoon meeting.

Monday: Liar day.

But new Legends of Tomorrow.
Doggo from eight years ago.

Wednesday: Bun bun bunny bun bun bun bun.

A bunny!
Outside of my apartment, waiting to nibble the grass as I got home.  I like having animals around.

This guy finally showed up near work, instead of hiding far away.
I also sorted out the big remaining issue at work when someone else pointed out that I have to have a thing be set to the same value in two places.  I don't get why we need to have the value in two places, except so that when the values are compared, they can fail if they don't match.  Whatever.  Once that was done, the other issue just magically worked when I did a "let's just hack together a thing to work with tomorrow."  Except for the magic work stuff.  It was nice.

Saturday: A relaxing day

I really like the sugar bomb that is the mojo.

A trade.

A raid.

A big bear.

A pizza.

Some deer.

Thursday: I sent around the "I broke everything and made it better" message today.

We'll see how many comments it has tomorrow.  I think the one comment I have already can be answered with "yes, I saw that, and fixed it before adding the new option because the other thing is even more donking weird."  We'll see.

And I messed up the date today.

There was a turtle in the hallway this afternoon.  It is a pet turtle, so it's ok.

  • Sonic advertises here, but I assumed it was just like when they advertised in Hawaii.  It isn't.  They're actually nearby.  I have a weekend plan now.
  • I have mixed feelings about this.

Tuesday: It makes more sense now.

The thing was pulling information from elsewhere, and using that to define the key translations.  Which, fine, great, whatever, but it's not very intuitive.  But I found it, so tomorrow I can do more tests and hopefully get a working version finished.  It couldn't be today, because using the other stuff means loading a bunch of new packages into my environment.  Ugh.

The buzzy bee says ugh too.
I also went out to my car this morning to discover a "we're going to tow your car" warning on it.  Either I messed up something when I moved in, or they've changed the rules, or something, but now I need to do something to get a parking pass.  It's dumb, I've bothered them, and I have a kind of solution, but it's still a pain in the ass.

  • Why?  None of these people are irreplaceable, which is why when they were shunned, life pretty much went on as it did before.  I have no interest in any of them.
  • If you didn't know WCA was going to be great, then you weren't paying attention.
  • I pushed a project to github today, but I didn't want to have it completely out of my local tree.  It turns out git already thought of that, so I can happily have the github version in a directory with other not-github projects.

Monday: Tomorrow starts even earlier

At least tomorrow I won't be confused about what time it is, because I will remember that my phone is correct, and my laptop (along with all the computers I connect to (that aren't in Hawaii)) are three hours ahead, not two.  Arizona doesn't do DST, but not because they're in the middle of the ocean by themselves where it doesn't matter (like Hawaii), but because of reasons.  I guess.

The mountains are cool here.
I spent a good chunk of the day doing cleanup work on three tickets that I want to finish this week.  Tomorrow I should ruin people's weeks by asking for code reviews.
Mexican Coke?  In the better Medio Litro version?  Yes, please!
And then conference stuff, and then there was board game stuff, along with a lot of meeting people who I will likely have trouble remembering names.   I am bad with names.
Finally caught this jerk.
As I was returning to my room after board games,  I saw this thing in the outside hallway:
No.  Unacceptable.
No thank you.

Monday: Reading APIs and sorting through schemas isn't a lot of fun.

I'm going to have questions, too.  I'm pretty sure there are things missing from the database stuff.

But I also had a bunch of good news today.

I officially have health insurance again.

And my moving reimbursement has been processed and should be in my account tomorrow.

Plus, tomorrow movers come with my stuff.  Finally.  Almost ten weeks later.  But at least I'll be able to make rice!  And spaghetti!  And mac&cheese!  And I'll be able to finish cataloging and organizing books!

Except I fly to Tucson on Sunday, so a lot of this is going to have to wait until I get back.

A bunny!  Outside, doing bunny things!

Saturday: Some statistics.

  • Approximate number of miles driven: 2000.
  • Number of times I've almost died on this trip: 2.
    • Once when I hydroplaned while it was hailing between Laramie and Cheyenne.
    • Once when I couldn't see where the road was after a semi passed me between Goodland, KS, and SomeOtherPlace, KS.
  • Number of crashed/broken cars seen: 18.
  • Number of crashed/broken cars seen in Colorado: 18.
  • Number of crashed/broken cars seen in the Denver metro area: 16.
  • City whose urban planning is best fixed with an orbital laser strike: Denver.
  • City whose urban planning surprisingly works: Salt Lake City.
  • State with least interesting food options: All of them.
  • Number of Targets seen: 7.
  • Number of cops seen: 5.
  • Number of wind turbines in Wyoming: ~120.
  • Azimuthal range covered by synchronized warning lights on wind turbines near Wilson, KS: 180°.
Let's just say it was an eventful day.

The start.

It started out as a cold and rainy day.
Wyoming actually isn't awful to drive through.  It looks nice, and the roads aren't terrible.
Back to Laramie for the first time in more than a decade.
I was somewhat surprised to see three college age kids crossing the street with a rainbow, a bisexual, and a pansexual flags.  Today was apparently the Pride parade in Laramie, which is a nice improvement over twenty years ago, just before I first visited.
But I was there for a calzone.
 Because that's also been awhile.
It was good.
I had to find a place to park and eat.
There were squirrels.
Then more driving, and after realizing I wasn't going to get to my hotel before restaurants closed, I stopped at the first place I saw.
And had a shake.

And steak.
It was all good, although I could have used a fork.  Zach.  I'm talking to you, Zach.

While there, I saw this tweet, which was odd, because I was pretty sure I was there.

Then it rained, and it wasn't fun, and it rained some more, and it continued to not be fun for like five and a half hours.

And my car hit 30k miles.
Here are extra squirrel pictures:
