Friday: I wish people weren't so awful
Especially since the entire point of democracy and friendly relations with other nations is to prevent people from dying, whether from regular international wars, or from violent insurrection. I thought this was something that everyone understood. We don't have strong monarchies anymore because last time France had to switch to a decimal calendar.

Tuesday: "I'm going to save myself two minutes by demonstrating how cops are all basically terrible."
He decided that he really needed to turn left into the gas station to get something inside the shop, so he turned on the lights in his unmarked SUV. Good job, asshole. Glad you didn't have to wait for your slurpie.
And then I spent the evening putting together slides for tomorrow, most of which are just images with a title, because I'm lazy, and words are hard.
Also I bought a new domain name today because it's shorter and easier to remember for other people, and I can use it to dump things I might need to share. Like the slides I made for tomorrow.

- This was interesting to read over lunch.

Thursday: We'll see if it works tomorrow.
A new bakery opened up to replace the bakery that closed last year. This one is a standard tray-and-tong Japanese style place.
I'm still disappointed the old place closed, but this works too.

- I really like Legends of Tomorrow. Giving Mick fire powers is a good idea. I'm not sure bringing Constantine on full time fits that well. He's reckless and stupid, but in a "I actually know what I'm doing" way. The team works better when they just bumble into solutions. Breaking up Sarah and Ava is dumb, and they should fix that.

Saturday: Whoops. Let's call that the test "do stuff" day.
Because I pretty much didn't do anything. Except discover that there's a time (3:45 PM) that the Times parking lot becomes an absolute mess, because everyone decides to stop and wait for other people to put groceries in their car instead of just finding another parking space. There's also a time like five-ten minutes later when there are literally infinite parking spaces.

Friday: And that's when I discovered that mysql 5.7 is incompatible with a good chunk of our sql codebase.
If I googled correctly, I can set a sql-mode variable that tells 5.7 to back off and stop being a syntax jerk, but I didn't want to sort that out at 6:30 on a Friday. If not, then I guess I'm spending a chunk of next week rewriting everything so that
SELECT DISTINCT a,b FROM table JOIN other_table USING(a) ORDER BY other_table.c DESC;
becomes
Ugh.
SELECT DISTINCT a,b FROM table JOIN other_table USING(a) ORDER BY other_table.c DESC;
becomes
SELECT a,b FROM (SELECT DISTINCT a,b,c FROM table JOIN other_table USING(a) ORDER BY other_table.c DESC) AS V;

Friday: Going to Target was a mistake.
Because it was full of crazy people who have no sense of "not blocking the aisle" or "maybe you don't need to buy $350 worth of stuff at Target, holy shit, what is wrong with you?" The worst part was the $350 person was in front of me in line, did the "I don't want these three items that sum to $4" thing, used a $10 gift card, couldn't load the app on her phone because her 4yo son logged her out and changed the password, lost said son when he wandered off, and then couldn't get her card to work. "It usually works!" I don't care. I just want to buy my kleenex and toilet paper and get the fuck out of here.
And Gen 3 released:
Also a Plusle that I didn't screen cap because I was at Target trying not to get run over.

Why not just fix things in the future by fixing them in the present? Why didn't they send Fitz? Why are the Kree there? Why is there a fake reality computer thing from last season?
- Team Skull.

Friday: What an asshole.
When Obama would visit, he almost always arrived late in the evening, and he stayed out of the way, which minimized any extra traffic. Then this fucker arrives:
He flies in, shuts down H-1 so he can go to his hotel in Waikiki (which is also all shut down), has a fucking nap because he's a feeble old fuck, shuts down H-1 again to go to Pearl Harbor, doesn't actively shit himself, then shuts down H-1 again so he can go back to the hotel. They also had all the cross streets shutdown as well, so the only way to get from mauka/makai of H-1 was to take University.
The Inhumans was again a bunch of crap. At the beginning of the episode, Medusa says, "We can't go around killing everyone!" My first thought was "that doesn't sound like the Medusa I know."
Then, at the end of episode, I made the note, "How bout you go stab some people?" because that is literally the plan. Green Inhuman Knife Guy kills like six guards, then punches Maximus a bunch before taking him to Black Bolt. Then they have a "twist ending" that if they kill Maximus, the city is destroyed because he made a backup plan/they needed to fill out one more episode. It's stupid, this whole show is stupid, ugh ugh uuuuuugggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhh.

Thursday: Just when I thought everything was working
It isn't, so I spent like two hours today manually checking a bunch of stuff. I think the first thing just needs some configuration changes. The second thing looks like a scale issue, but it's not totally clear. Ugh.
This ugly ass truck doesn't fit in the parking space. It's too wide, and it's too long, because no one actually needs to have a damn customized block of stupid. I've watched the asshole who owns it park before, and he had to have his gf get out (because since he's backing in like an idiot, there's no space for her door to open), before inching it back and forth while I was waiting to get past his stupid ass. Yesterday, he had it parked with the wheels on the yellow line separating it from his neighbor. Today he apparently decided that he could just let his stupid-bus stick into the driveway by three feet. If the stickers are true, this dumbass is a cop, too.

Thursday: I had a great title, but I forgot what it was.
I woke up today, checked my phone, and discovered that it was using 4G instead of wifi. "Crap, did my computer crash again?" Yes. It had. But not only that, it'd shut down completely, making me suspect maybe it was a power outage. So I pushed the button. Nothing. Push the button again. Nothing. Slam press the button a bunch of times. Nothing.
Crap. I immediately started triaging: the old laptop still works, it just has a broken bezel, I could use that as a temporary replacement. I would have to get things configured correctly, but that wouldn't be too difficult. The biggest challenge would be getting data off the disks.
I took a shower, planned out what I would need to do, thought about how much of a replacement computer to get, and how quickly I could get it delivered. As I was getting dressed, I had a thought. This case is nearly 20 years old. The button is a crappy plastic thing that gets jammed in the housing pretty regularly. Maybe the issue was that the button wasn't working? A quick google search later showed me the pinouts for my motherboard, and a switch swapped the power switch with the reset button. Tap. Boot. So it's all ok, I guess. For now.
Also the news was trash today.

Wednesday: Doctor day.
It turns out I'm generally healthy. Also that I can't get updates for some vaccines because it's not allowed with the medicine I take. So that's fun.
I decided to just go home afterwards instead of driving back to work, since I can do things anywhere there's internet.
Apparently it's some sort of traffic survey? Wouldn't this be the kind of situation where a drone would make far more sense than sending up a helicopter?
I was able to get some emails answered, and since it didn't take much time to transfer images:

- Let's assume this summary is accurate (I'm too lazy to actually read court transcripts). Hopefully this means we'll have real redistricting reform soon.
- The number of people in this article that should be in jail is astonishing. "Doing things the right way is hard, so we send people to be slaves so 'Christians' can profit off them."

Friday: Thanks, jerk in the pickup truck swearing in the street outside.
I didn't have a picture for today, and going out to see you shouting randomly before nearly crashing your truck (twice) made me try to take a picture of the moon.

Tuesday: Covfefe.
My talk went ok.
Are there new Twitter stickers now? Brain explosion seems new.
And then, just before going home, I checked Twitter, and was immediately confused by the main trending topic:
The fact that it hasn't been deleted is most worrying. No one has access? No one cares about this? Have they all been fired, or do they not care because they think doing something about it will cause them to be fired? I have many mean thoughts I will refrain from sharing.

Saturday: I had to go to Target, because I needed to get new windshield wipers.
The old ones weren't any good. They also didn't have the "here's the size you need for your car" book thing. I kind of assume they got rid of it when everybody's phones could tell them the same thing.
Then to the park, which was super busy again today.
So let me tell you about the gym.
I walked over, sat down, and wondered what the douchebag behind me was doing. It turns out he was being a jerk and adding a Tyranitar to it. So after I punched the Blissey in the face, I had to punch his stupid tiny head dinosaur in the face. Then, he kept training it up, despite the fact that that just means I have to punch his tiny head dinosaur one more time.
Then, on the second lap:
Anyway, then it was time for lunch.
The eggs looked weird, but these were far better than most scrambled eggs I've had. Being able to dip it in kalbi sauce didn't hurt.
Then Samurai Jack ended, and it was sad, but it ended the only way it really could have ever ended. 🐞
Then to the park, which was super busy again today.

- Why would you ever design a gear shift like this?
- I had the original when I was a kid, and when I saw this last night, I suddenly realized that it kind of stupid. It was super big and heavy, and I always played holding it off the ground, kind of the complete opposite of how it was designed to be used.

- And this is going to make the trip next month a fucking delight. Also, this would be a stupid plan.

RobotHumanGirlfriendSuperbadguy, and this episode felt like it's just there to fill space.
