Monday: Q17/I am bad at waking up on Mondays.

Given that I've had zero pressure to wake up at a decent time for a week, I'm all soft and lazy about alarms.  Which I think means I need to upgrade to a better alarm.

Plus, while setting up my work computer at home, I discovered that the cables don't reach, so I can't set it up in a reasonable location, so I'm stuck with my laptop until a new super long ethernet cable is delivered.

But I got reinforcement groceries, so I have tortilla chips, and can make tacos this week.

Tuesday: Quarantine Day 4

I'm kind of getting the hang of this now.  It helps that today was day one of our conference, so most of the day was sitting on my couch, watching science on tv.  I've never really used my tv/computer setup for much, but it is perfect for video chat/remote conferences.  I suspect my camera and microphone are bad (because they are), but for things like this, it's far better than staring at a laptop (although of course, I was doing that as well).

Which I named Cleffa for obvious reasons.  It replaces Popplio, which developed a broken left hinge, making it like laptop 4 that I've broken in that specific location.  Cleffa is slightly more powerful than Popplio, and pink instead of purple.

Got more of the puzzle done while making dinner.

Which was Emergency Quarantine Curry Rice.

It's equivalent to regular Curry Rice, except that it's made with 1/2 pound less stew meat than I wanted, two russet potatoes instead of the 4-5 yukon gold, and shallots instead of onions, because that's what got delivered in my order because almost everything was sold out.  I assume that will calm down by this weekend, right?

In any case, I have to go pick up prescriptions on Friday, so I figured that I'd do some manual shopping then.  Of course, it's also supposed to be a high of 78, in March, so yet again, everything just keeps getting worse, and nothing is good, and other unhappy thoughts.

The NPC lady just sat down next to this corpse, because the game doesn't clear bodies.

And then I visited Zeus.

The game is set in Ptolemaic Egypt, so it makes sense to have Greek gods.

Yet again, I leave home, and my main computer shits itself and stops working.  Ugh.  And the power cycle bot is clearly not cycling power correctly.  Ugh..

Or, more likely, I'll just buy a new box and replace the one that's not working well.  It probably should have more disk space anyway.

And, being super smrt, I decided to upgrade my main computer this evening.  It's still going. :(

Monday: This happened last year, too

I take a longer-than-absolutely-necessary Thanksgiving break, and there's a winter storm at home.  Hopefully there'll still be some snow when I get home.  In less fun news, it looks like I lost power at home, and the NAS didn't reboot.  I probably need to make that the default setting somewhere.

• Being gone has made me think about how nice it'd be to be able to access my files remotely.  It looks like there are personal cloud solutions for what I want.

Friday: Spending a day reworking my work environment.

Because everyone yesterday was bragging about their fancy editors, with all kinds of built in junk.  So I looked into things, and updated how I do things too.

1. First up: the work cluster only has emacs 23.  This is old.  Building from scratch didn't work, because there are library incompatibilities.  However, you can install it from conda.  Which seems like overkill, but whatever.
2. This gave me ElDoc mode automatically, which gives argument list help.
3. And then anaconda-mode, which gives completion, help, and reference/definition jumping.
4. Also a cool auto insert/remove debugger statement shortcut.
5. Which led to me adding snippets, particularly one like this, so I could get automatic docstring support on new functions.
6. And I switched from screen to tmux for things, because tmux cooperates better with the work environment, and gives me easy terminal naming.

We'll see how nice this all plays together next week.  It also makes me want to update all my computers so I can use the same neat tricks everywhere.

You have an LG DVD/VCR player, and one of your DVDs happens to not work due to some dumb region coding issue, the solution seems to be:

1. Press the setup button.
2. Highlight the "Lock" symbol, but do not enter that submenu.
3. Press the '0' key seven times.
4. Select "Yes" when prompted to load the region free player.

Again, just in case this happens to be a thing that comes up.

Tuesday: The crossover is over, I made dinner, and I got a lot accomplished at work today.

And I even made a doctor's appointment for tomorrow?  What?  They have an online thing, and seriously why doesn't everyone have an online thing for everything.  I can accomplish so much more if I can space it out over twenty minutes between fixing bits of code and running tests.  People need to get over "phone calls" as a valid way to do things.

• I can't get a web based API to work with my new light bulbs, but they accept a complex schedule routine, and I can control them via Google.  So they work for now, but I'll probably have to code up (or find) a snek implementation.

Friday: Debugging rabbit holes.

At least I learned a lot about how this thing works.  I'm still not completely sure how to add the stuff I need to, but I can kind of see where it will go.  I also learned that pdb stole a lot of stuff from gdb, but decided that typing "b" to add a break point at the current location was too useful, and so they skipped that in favor of forcing you to type full locations.  Super nice to discover that when the program continues until the end instead of stopping at the break point like you thought it would.

Fifteen years ago I saw balloons.

• So the French Open is racist?  Good to know.
• One of the major reasons I'm reading comics again is because there are not-white, not-male, not-straight writers/artists/etc.

Friday: The end of the conference.

It was a good conference.  I learned a lot, and I have a pile of questions for next week when everyone is back in the office.  Now all I need to do is get home tomorrow.  That should be easy.

Since the conference ended around lunch time, I spent the afternoon catching up on news and internet stuff I've been missing.  I also discovered that my tumblr queue was empty, so after some git dancing, and some refactoring and testing for an updated system, I now have a functional RSS-to-tumblr queue snek script.  I have to do a bit more work on it for it to be completely finished.  I'm abusing a few things because I was lazy, so those should get fixed up.  As it is, though, it correctly goes through the RSS archive (by increasing date), determines if the link is to tumblr, and if it is, likes and reblogs.  Finally, the RSS entry is unflagged, removing it from the archive for the future.  Running the script now takes about a minute, compared to much longer to manually spawn the link in a tab and click through to queue it.  Yay increasing my internet reading efficiency.

It was a fairly nice day.

 I didn't like lunch, so I planned to get a big dinner.

I think this was cilantro butter.  I could never live here.  The soap flavor would kill me.

A big steak.  I would have preferred better veggies, less cilantro sauce, and a "prickly pear steak sauce" that emphasized tart over sweet.  Still, it was a good steak, cooked to a great level.

I've realized that I'm going to need to go out and get groceries tomorrow night when I get home.  Ugh.
