Sunday: I did a few productive things.

Not much.  Enough to qualify as "did something."  I also have my youtube watch later list down to less than 75 videos.  I don't think it's ever been shorter than 75 videos.

I do need to watch the final episode of last season's Supergirl this week.  The new season starts next week.  More importantly, Black Lightning starts tomorrow.  It'll replay on the app, but I should probably dig out my cable remote to see if I can catch it live.

I wanted something easy and fast.  Pizza is about the closest food to my apartment.

  • Good news!  The environment is going to collapse and kill everyone, so it doesn't matter that our government is corrupt and run by fascists!
  • Yeah, I think "still cancelled" is the right response.
  • Thanks, Becky.

Friday: 1,382.

Unless, obviously, everyone dies before then.

And today I threw out 40 Pokeballs, because I ran out of space.
I still only have 18 revives, which I really need more of.

Ok, WTF?

I bought some pineapple juice last week.  It's been sitting there unopened, because I also bought a thing of lemonade, and that sounded tastier at the time.

I admit that I might have been thirsty while buying groceries last week.

In any case, it's this juice:
This is really happy to point out that it's organic.
I just had a drink of it, and it's super thick.  Almost like a smoothie.  I look at the ingredients:

  • FILTERED WATER (SUFFICIENT TO RECONSTITUTE)
    • ok
  • ORGANIC PINEAPPLE JUICE CONCENTRATE
    • yep
  • NATURAL GUMS (GUAR, XANTHAN AND SODIUM ALGINATE GUMS)
    • WTF?
My immediate thought: what's in Dole pineapple juice?  My first search stumped me, as Dole apparently assumes you understand that their juice contains juice.  However, Dole licences their name for juices to the PepsiCo conglomerate, which is more than happy to tell you what it contains:
  • FILTERED WATER
    • ok
  • PINEAPPLE JUICE CONCENTRATE
    • wasn't expecting generic juice to be organic
  • ASCORBIC ACID (VITAMIN C)
    • because Dole hates scurvy.
      • also: pirates.
WTF is wrong with the world of juice, if the soulless multinational...

What?

Really?

Oh

Nevermind, then.

Friday: Imbolc

Blah.

"I'm sorry, but Official Giant Globe Javelin rules clearly state that wasn't a valid move."
BTW, North Korea, that is really a nice retro-modern giant globe.  Maybe you could sell those for some money?
Now I'm hungry.

Saturday: It turns out she was right

I had hoped that while I was on the mainland, I'd be able to get some proper doughnuts.  That didn't happen, because even though PHL has a Dunkin Doughnuts in the international terminal, it's outside of the controlled customs area.  That meant although I could see it, and see the doughnuts, I had no way of getting to them.  Crap.

So, I went out to get some today at the best place to get them locally:
Wait, that have one in McCully?  I don't have to drive to the airport to get them?
I got a dozen, and then got one more, because I wanted to make sure that I would like the maple bacon one:
It turns out I did like it, so it was all ok.
I also got a creme brulee doughnut:
Not quite as torched as I would have liked, but still super delicious.
Since I was already basically at the airport, and I had my NPR playlist set up on my phone, I decided to drive over to the other side of the island on H3.  I really like that highway, even when it's clogged with traffic because of an accident in the tunnel (it must have been reasonably bad, as the guy sitting on the side of the road looked really unhappy).  This also pointed out that even when you have piles of signs telling you that the right lane is closed, people still don't believe it until a cop blocks the lane.
I discovered on the other side of the island that we really are in a drought.  Here's the best comparison I can find at the moment:
Today.

Anyway, after taking the super long way home with a box of doughnuts, I decided that I should get something for lunch.  Dinner.  Whatever meal you eat at 4PM.

me: also: what do I want for late lunch?
Julie: you want Ramen

See today's post title.
Random animal!
"Hmm....let's see what's in the news today..."

Ok, now to back-date this post like I did yesterday...

Wednesday: Skipping a day means catching up with piles of tabs

Yikes.  First, let's take a look at the katsudon I had for lunch, because lunch posts are best posts.
You may notice a few things about this one: a) no egg; b) no broth; c) random furikake.  I'm not saying it was bad, because it was super tasty.  It just wasn't what I was expecting from katsudon.  I also saw this sign at the lunch sushi place:
which ruined my plan to get unagidon instead.  I'd heard something about this on NPR yesterday, with a statement to the effect that unagi has spiked like 200% recently, due to problems with the baby harvest (they catch wild baby eel, and then raise them on farms until lunchtime maturity).  I hope this isn't a permanent thing, as unagi is one of my favorite things.

Ok, let's catch up on piles of links!
