Friday: "Beep beep, I'm a sheep!"

I finished up the things I wanted to get done for this week today, and then missed the email telling me about my Scipy travel from the travel office, so I need to call them tomorrow and see if I need to do something, or if it'll just stay mostly-reserved until Monday.
I did not catch the fancy bird.
There's Godzilla stuff happening, and that made me look up to see if it was streaming, and google said it only was if I paid money, but my TV found a channel that had it to stream with ads.
Godzilla: Final War is exactly the kind of Godzilla movie I wanted.
And then I finished Magic for Liars, which is the best book I've read in a long time.
I just wish Sarah Gailey wrote faster so I didn't have to wait a year.

Wednesday: Things continue to work, and I suspect some sort of conspiracy.

And I got carne asada fries for lunch, because Julie had delicious looking fries, and I wanted to remember why I hate this place's guacamole.
It's full of cilantro and giant chunks of white onion.  Learn to mince.  Also learn not to put shit weeds in food.

There was also a Murder Team Five special on tonight.  I think it was the same as this one I watched last year, but I didn't remember most of the details from that one.  Absolutely ridiculous.

Tuesday: I had a good title at some point.

Just like I'm sure I had a good caption when I took this picture.

I finally got the buddy update for Pokemon Go:
"Hmm...I never see any ghost Pokemon around, so maybe improving my Haunter would be a good idea." Click.  "HOLY CRAP, HAUNTER IS GIANT!"  It turns out that 1.4m is people sized, but people aren't basically spheres, and they don't hover above the ground.  It also doesn't help that I was expecting it to look something like Sabrina's Haunter.

But imagine how cool it would be to walk around town with a giant purple ghost following behind you.

Today was also the day that KIKU showed the 2013 Murder Team Five special.  It was as ridiculous as all the other ones, and everyone died except the Murder Team.  The best part of the episode was when Murder Guy was about to do his heart-stabby finishing move, and the music was all building up, and then it all stopped as the guy about to get heart stabbed revealed he was the Murder Tailor.  You're a fuckup, MT.  Also, checking my last special (which I never finished captioning), the comic cop guy is now expecting his eleventh child, so he's adding about one a year.

Wednesday: Well...

First up, I guess I was wrong in my ranking of Holy Cross.

To be fair though, hydrostorm is objectively a better Item Crash.

Maybe I was wrong.  I looked a lot like my grilled cheese at lunch was cut horizontally rather than symmetrically.  It's less clear in this picture, but the bottom half was super rounded an all sides.

The financier was a bit odd tasting too.  Chocolate with something else.
First links:

Secondly, why did I suddenly publish a half edited blog draft from September 2014?  Because I caught the Murder Team 5 2012 special on TV this evening.  Unedited notes below the cut.

Mission to Kill: 2010 Special

This took way longer than I expected.  I also wasn't expecting to take nearly five hundred screenshots.  And then using 250 of them, plus more to make gifs.  That makes something like 15MB of images.  Oops.

I also discovered that there was an official webpage for the series (due to this page), which makes sense.  It was made five years ago.

Anyway, 2010 special of Mission to Kill Murder Team Five!

Friday: I spent all evening watching the Murder Team 5 special

So I didn't get a chance to read all my internets, so I don't have a lot of links.  And, I'm going to take time tomorrow to do screenshots, because I feel the special deserves screenshots.

Am I crazy, or can you see the Ca lines in the green?  There's a faint darkening in the full size image, and I think it's in the right place.

Friday: Today was the last day of Murder Team Five

This was the Mission to Kill (Hissatsu Shigotonin) 2009 series, and it's done now.  I've set up the DVR to re-record the Tuesday rerun episodes, so I can archive it.  There's a special double next week, and that's unfortunately the last time Old Murder Cop appears.

So what happens to the Murder Team?

Last week, there was a new gang of assassins, and they were killing a bunch of people, and claiming that they were the real Murder Team.  They had more than five members, so they clearly couldn't be the right ones.  Anyway, they stabbed a bunch of people, and generally caused trouble and caused a lot of people to be looking for assassins.

Plus, Murder Cop had to take part in his friend's seppuku, because he's a good friend, even though he didn't understand what his friend had done.  Nobody did, and I couldn't clearly figure out how it connected to the rest of the story, but I sometimes don't pay attention too closely.

In any case, MT5 goes to murder up some people, but it all goes wrong when Murder Woman has to escape, so Murder Dude is forced to switch from his heart stabby needle to a sword to fight off a bunch of bad guys.  It doesn't work, and he's totally captured, and the episode ended with the rest of the team looking concerned.

This week, the bad guys are obviously torturing MD, because that's what bad guys do.  Although, if we're being honest, the cops totally tortured an innocent dude a half dozen episodes ago, so it's like a really bad hobby that people had.  Anyway, it turns out that a newspaper guy is behind a bunch of stuff, so he could write stories and sell papers.  Except they're more like flyers than real newspapers, and I'm not sure I actually saw his people selling them.

But he's a bad guy, and he does something with newspaper like things.  That's all you need to know.  Also that he's friends with the "Chief Councillor," which is a big fancy job of some sort.

The bad guys have the people they'd abducted for being assassins identify MD, and they use that information to ransack his house and kidnap his girlfriend.  Except:

  1. Those abducted people disappear after this scene.  They had so much murder to get through this week, they just off-screen murdered like a dozen people to make room.
  2. She's not like a girlfriend-girlfriend, she's just this girl that lives at his house and they're friends.  She calls him "older brother," so maybe she's somebody they rescued before I started watching the show?  This is why I'm DVRing the reruns.

Back to the story.  They've captured MD, kidnapped his girlfriend, off-screen murdered the extras, so it's obviously going to be kick ass rescue time, right?

First, CC summons the wife of the guy who had to kill himself last week, and offers her a pile of money to never tell anybody what her husband told her.  She's all "whatever, he never told me anything, and I'm insulted that you'd throw money at me like this, and I'm going to go live in a temple, because you made my husband kill himself.  Oh, BTW, any chance you'd be willing to tell me why you woke up one day and decided that you were going to ruin my life?"  Nope.  CC is a jerk.  She leaves, and a guy walks up and stabs her.  She's all "WTF, I didn't even fucking know anything, and I get murdered here?  This is bullshit, but this town has that sacred shrine where you can hire magical murders to avenge the fuck out of things, and I'm going to get in on that action before I die of this really bad stab wound that would have insta-killed pretty much any other character ever, and you know what?  I'm going to make sure I take so long that it goes from fucking noon to fucking night by the time I get to the shrine.  Because fuck your sword and your stab wound, I'm fucking hardcore."

Seriously, it goes from day to night, and the assassin stabbed her good.  She's fucking hardcore.

MW is there, because that's her job, and is about to be all, "we'll murder those fuckers.  We'll murder them good," when MC steps out.  The Widow Hardcore is like, "huh, you were my husband's friend, and he never told me you were one of the revenge assassins."  It's all touching, and he's sad that she's dying, but they still take the time to collect all the coins she scatters around, but that's just business.

Now we can do a kick ass rescue.

The team all prepares, and they do special "this is the last mission because we're all going to die" preparations.  The get to the castle, when it's suddenly attacked by the other assassin team, who are all wearing masks, because when you're not a professional Murder Team, you need to make sure people don't see your faces.  In any case, they seem to be out to murder the newspaper guy too.  For reasons.  The bad guy plots are often confusing.  The MT5 plans are simple:

  1. Know somebody.
  2. Watch them get killed.
  3. Get paid to avenge them.
  4. Murder everyone.

Anyway, fight, fight, fight.  One of the assassins taunts MC, who's pretty much just walking through bad guys like he's cutting grass, but new bad guys show up and the assassin get sliced and his mask falls off.  It's MC's patrol buddy!  He's been showing for ages being all "I'm basically like Barney Fife, but in an Edo-period magistrate officer guise," so I assumed he was just there so MC could make suspicious faces behind someone's back.  Nope.  He's been building up to this, where he tells MC that he just wanted to actually help people for once, because the cops never seem to catch bad guys, but MT5 makes sure they end up stabbed, and he really wanted to get in on the stabbing action.

Except he's bad at it, because now he's dead.  "You should have stayed a cop," MC says.

MC strolls through the castle, raining slashy slashy murder on everyone in his way, because it's the final episode, he's the main character, and there's really nothing stopping him.  Literally.  No one can possible stop him.

The rest of the team does the murders they need to:  OMC kills the dude from last week that survived and New Young Murder Dude kills the newspaper guy with a series of great taunts.  Also his impractical thread and needle strangling technique.  He's a tailor.  It's what he does (I don't think I've mentioned this before).

MC walks down to the basement where they've been torturing MD, and decides he's had enough murder for today, so he stabs the torturer through his stomach, pinning him to the wall.  Yep.  He then releases MD, and gives him his murder needle.  MD is kind of messed up, but he stumbles over to the torture dude, and does his thing.  He also gets a great taunt with, "wait for me in hell, so I can kill you there again."  MD is wonderful.

So everything's great and happy, right?

Nope, MC was kidding earlier when he was all out of murder.  He puts on the assassin mask his buddy had, and walks out to greet CC's palanquin. CC tells his guards it's not a big deal, and opens the door to greet who he thinks is one of the assassins, because I guess he'd ordered them to kill the rest of the crew?  Or so they'd get killed by the rest of the crew?  Maybe so both would end up all dead?  I really don't understand the bad guy plot this week.  CC says, "so the job's done?"

Crap.  OMC had a great pun taunt!  The guy he's supposed to kill thinks he's in the way, because he introduces himself as a cop.  "We didn't call the cops! Go away!"  OMC walks up, and is like, "sure, as soon as I do my job."  The bad guy pauses, his eyes go wide, and then OMC stabs him.  Luckily, the subtitles point out that he says "as soon as I do my shigoto," which is 仕事, "work", but also the first two characters of 仕事人, which is what they've been calling the assassins this week and last.  See?  Great pun.

But yeah, CC thinks everything's fine, MC pulls out his sword, murders all the guards, because fuck them for being there, and then kills CC.  My notes claim that MC then says, "Fuck you right in your fat ugly face, you're dead now.  Dick."  I suspect I may have exaggerated.

Now they do the great and happy endings, except MD is leaving with his girlfriend.  Probably for the best since somebody who saw him get captured might have escaped murder.  New-YMD's tailor shop is super busy, and his pet bird comes back, so that's nice.  MW goes to visit old-YMD's grave, so he gets a flashback.  MC brings OMC to his house, and we find out that OMC has a wife.  Who we haven't ever seen, I don't think, because I honestly thought he lived by himself in that police house.

Wink! from MC.

And it's over.

Until the special in a few weeks.

And I found that there's a tumblr tag.  Except that seems to be mostly just "YMD is super cute!"

On not MT5 related news, I found this in the big encyclopedia of mythology that I have.  It's like the "tl;dr myths" in book form.  I've blurred out the unrelated stuff, and the story that the authors thought was most important.  I disagree.  I want to know more about Arjuna and Krishna's Grand Adventure to Help Agni Get His Power Back Through Arson.

It's from the other myth, but: "Toot toot, motherfuckers!  We've got a forest to burn down!"

Friday: Laundry and packing

I don't leave until late tomorrow, but I hate getting ready for travel.  I can't pretend a travel day is a normal day, even if it is until 10pm.  And now I'm checked in, and I've switched my crap travel agent seats for less crap window seats in the slightly less shitty class that I now have to rush to get at check-in time.

MT54 was a bit odd today.  Guy gets framed for murder and theft, and is executed leaving his wife and baby all alone.  She hires MT5, and they go after the real criminals: the thief who killed the kid that got killed, chief constable A, chief constable B, and the fucking magistrate of the town.  Murder Cop says he'll take two of the kills, since YMG died last episode.  However, when he's going to kill the thief while the credits roll, the thief takes off, and MC finds him slumped over in an alley, with a strangulation mark around his neck.  A shadow in the background runs off, indicating that New Murder Guy will be here next episode, and that he can figure out crimes and kill the instigator without even needing the rest of the Murder Team.  I'm guessing he's going to be kind of a jerk, but everyone will warm up to him by his second or third episode.

In related news, I remembered this week that Japan gets the internet too, and that they have a wikipedia, and they almost certainly have people who obsessively edit wikipedia articles about useless topics.  必殺仕事人2009.  Blammo.  Combined with the wonder that is chrome's auto-translate function, I can figure out what's going on better.  Today's episode was titled "False Accusation."  Important information.

And I'm not mistaken.

Friday: WTF, Murder Team Five?

Mission to Kill.  Murder Team Five.  The wacky Japanese drama where two cops and three other "normal" people murder the shit out of bad guys.

Two weeks ago, they murdered all the teachers at a school.  Because they were all corrupt except for the one clean teacher that the other teachers had killed.  Corrupt teachers.  Apparently you can be corrupt in inventive ways in Japan.

Last week, Young Murder Guy fucked up his kill, had to smash the target's head in with a rock, and totally got caught by a cop.  But not one of his fellow Murder Cops, a proper "let's solve crimes and track down bad guys before sending them to some kind of trial" kind of cop.

I assumed YMG was going to get sentenced to death or something.  Because that would make sense.

Nope.

MT5 doesn't bother with "making sense" when it can stretch things out.

This week, they recapped the end from last week, but then suddenly Murder Guy throws a sharp needle at the regular cop to make it look like YMG is innocent, and then Old Murder Cop wanders over complaining about he was just nearly knocked over by someone running away.  And then OMC tells RC that he knows YMG, and how he's a real cool and totally not a criminal.

And with that, it's like last week's cliffhanger never happened.

Except when RC stops by YMG's place to say that they're still investigating things, because everyone in that house was dead when they went inside, and that's really odd.  Oh, and by the way, YMG, this lady I just met was asking about you because she's your mom.

YMG was an orphan, and blah blah blah, this lady is not at all his mom.  We know this because she goes and gambles and has some sort of plan to do something to fool somebody to money something whatever no one cares.

But it's somehow essential to have YMG go talk to the guy they're trying to fool and talk to him as her son.

YMG's son thinks things are weird, and doesn't trust Not-Mom at all, especially when he sees her talking to people.  He tries to convince YMG, but YMG is dumb.  So, the kid takes his money to go hire Murder Team Five to murder everyone to protect his dad.  The kid knows to do this because he's the real son of a victim from an earlier episode that YMG adopted, so he knows how MT5 works.  I'm not entirely sure that he knows his dad is part of MT5 or what.  I don't think so, because you would probably just ask your dad's murder friends to help if you thought he was in trouble, and not hire them.

Anyway.

The kid's right, and NM and her gang somehow can't wait any longer, so instead of whatever money something whatever they were going to do, they just send in thugs to kill that guy and steal all his money.  Why they didn't start with that instead of going this YMG-scam route is an excellent question.

MT5 meets up to plan the murders of the bad guys, and YMG shows up and says that he'll take NM.  Because he really wants her to be his mom.  Even though Murder Woman did her research and has some proof that she's a crook.  MT5 agrees, and murder murder murder, and then we go watch YMG.

YMG tells NM that he knows she's not his mom, and that he wants her to turn herself in.  She agrees, and then falls over and claims to have hurt her leg, so she can't walk anymore.  YMG agrees to carry her to the police station.  Can you guess what happens?

"He gets his stupid ass stabbed by the knife she's hiding?"

He gets his stupid ass stabbed by the knife she's hiding.  I'd already ranked you the worst member of MT5, YMG, but this is just ridiculous.

The ranking is of course (low to high):

  • Young Murder Guy.  For shit like this.
  • Murder Cop.  He's just a bit too "let's go murder people" about things.
  • Murder Woman and Old Murder Cop.  It's a tie.  They sit back and comment on everyone else, and are just wonderful to watch.  OMC probably edges things out just because he's actually the same guy who was in the original 1979 show of the same title, so he's been doing the MT5 thing for thirty years.
  • Murder Guy.  He has the best way to kill people, he justifies his actions by claiming it's justice, and he's basically just Batman.  A murder-y Batman.  So kind of like Batman.
Anyway, NM totally taunts YMG about how stupid he is, and that she'd never turn herself in because she's a master criminal, and now he's dead and the only thing worse than being stupid is to be dead and stupid.

Except he's not dead, he has the strength to pull out his murder string, shoot it up and through a cherry tree, and then back down around her neck.  He pulls her up into the tree, using his last strength to pose with the string around his hands, so her weight on the string balances his corpse.  Then MC arrives to cut the string, and they both fall down.

The credits scene is MT54 and YMG's son around YMG's funeral pyre, where they cremate him with his murder string.  So maybe the kid does know they're MT4?  In any case, this kid has lost two dads in this series already, so I'm thinking he's cursed.  The scene ends with YMG's eyes opening, before the pyre collapses and MC says something about "you can never escape hell."

WTF, MT5?

And while I'm thinking about eyes, NM's actress could not keep her eyes still when she was "dead."  It was kind of funny to watch.  "Excellent, I've fooled them into thinking I'm dead!  I am the best con artist ever!"

  • Snorlax.
  • Wendy's.  Also: Pokemon.
  • I had a similar reaction to this story.  I can't imagine that anyone would try to make a Captain Marvel movie.  Ever, pretty much.

Friday: Murder Team Five!

Links first, so I can put the 116 screen shots from that Japanese Drama below a cut.

Now, MURDER TEAM FIVE!

Friday, May 16, 2014

Friday: At least I have two days before I have to fight that stupid supercomputer again.

This is the key that flew off my keyboard when I hit it.  Multi-million dollar fucking supercomputer, and I have to be the one to point out that one of the four randomly selected connection hosts is down?  I spend an hour trying to figure out what I changed and the answer is "no one noticed that we sometimes send your requests to the trash"?  Fuck you.
And then I came home and watched this TV show: Mission to Kill.  I've seen three episodes or so, and they all follow the same track.

  1. Someone is clearly an Asshole, and does obvious asshole things.  One of the Women in the background seems to be listening way too closely to the asshole scheming.
  2. Someone else (we're going to call them "the Victim" for soon to be obvious reasons) needs money/assistance/help finding their puppy/something.
  3. The Victim befriends the Hero dude.  This usually happens at the same time the asshole does something so mean, the townspeople get angry.  The Cops show up, and settle the situation.
  4. The Victim decides to ask the Asshole for help.  This is often the only bad thing the Victim does.
  5. The Asshole betrays the Victim, who objects, and gets stabbified until dead.
  6. Oh yeah, there's an Old Dude and a Young Dude.
    1. That's Old Dude in the picture at the link.
  7. The Woman, the Hero, the Top Cop, Old Dude, and Young Dude gather in their secret hideout.  The Victim conveniently left some money sitting somewhere, as a way to thank his friend the Hero.  The team divides the cash and leave.
  8. The Asshole is partying about how wonderfully he's assholed it up this time.  The Woman is there, and signals when to start the plan. Old Dude and Young Dude murder up any goons that could screw things up.  Hero sneaks up to the Asshole, and uses a giant needle to stab into the Asshole and puncture his heart.  I'm not kidding.  They go x-ray vision so you can the needle stab the heart and let out a little poof of blood.
    1. X-ray vision.  So you know exactly how the Asshole died.
  9. The Top Cop shows up, and picks off the Toady.  Yep.  Top Cop is also clean-up assassin. WTF?
  10. The Victim's family gets a letter so they know he's dead, and the Murder Squad go about their daily business with kind of knowing "Man, I love murdering assholes" looks to each other.
  11. There's this weird side story endcap thing, that I think is the Cop's family?  He tells jokes and things, letting you know that after straight up murdering an asshole, while pretty much having the opposite of that as his job description, he's still just your normal everyday psychopath.
I should DVR it next week, and point out how that episode fits to this format.  Plus: then I can screenshot the X-ray murder.

Today's links are a bunny, and then a bunch of "no."
  • The bunny.
  • First no: this is not how shows should be run, but is totally how they are.  "Missed Target Demo" has to be the dumbest part.  People are watching the show, but they're not who you wanted, so you cancel it?  Just sell the stupid ads to someone else, dumbass.
  • Second: Koffing.  Koffing doesn't care, he's happy all the time.  Putting him at #137 is just wrong.  I'm guessing they used the "look cool/powerful attacks" strategy to rank things, thereby missing out on the most important part of the Pokemon world.  I'll sort together my own list tomorrow.  I have all the data, I just need to put the Pokemon into categories, and then sort them in those categories.
  • Third: Godzilla for the NES is one of the very few NES games I actually still have (somewhere in my apartment).  That's because it's wonderfully done.  If this dummy can't get through the first level, he doesn't know how to play video games.  Godzilla is built like a tank, and you have four different attacks with him.  Some of the boss monsters are cheap (I never found a way to defeat Gigan with Godzilla.  You have to use Mothra, because you can avoid Gigan's chest sawblade), but there shouldn't be much of a problem to play.  Yes, it's not super colorful, or advanced, but compared with other games at the time, it's not bad.
