Sunday: This is a short week.

So I guess I can't complain about having to go to work tomorrow.
Squirrel from a year ago.

Saturday: I like days off.

I can be lazy, and do very little, and then go get breakfast at 3pm.
It was yummy.

And it's another year of PKMN Go.

Friday: A year ago, I was in Reno.

It was pretty crappy.

Thursday, June 27, 2019

Thursday: I almost got everything accomplished today.

Except for a review that was too mind numbing to complete.  Comments, documentation, and sane variable names help a lot.

Then I came home and beat Bloodstained.
I had guessed that the Guy Who Helps You Build Stuff would turn out to be a bad guy.  Turns out it was Oddly Dressed Nun.
I wondered how they were going to deal with her becoming super suspicious, since you still need to be able to buy stuff.
It turns out she left the kid in charge.  Of the shop.  Full of weapons and stuff.  And in charge of buying the magic demon shards from you.  I'm with Miriam on this one.
But then I got confused, because I couldn't figure out where to go.  So I looked it up, and that made the Room I Only Went To Like Twice make sense, as the weird color was demon power.
And then the kid told me where I was supposed to go.  Thanks, kid.  Only a bit too late.
I really like being able to change my character style, and that the things I have equipped show up in the game.  In any case, I beat all the various end bosses.
She tried to convince me she'd fooled me, but I horded pretty much all of the demon shards.  If this was accurate to how I played, she'd be able to summon a bat, a frog, and maybe shoot some bubbles at me.  Like I'd give up the shards of Super Fiery Death.

Wednesday: Every place should take credit cards

I mean, it's 2019.  It's literally just a USB device and an internet connection.  The Girl Scouts take credit cards for cookies.  I guess I have to find a replacement place.

Five year ago turtles.

Tuesday: Wait, Tuesday?

It's only Tuesday?  UGGGHGHGHG.

There's a new Pokemon splash screen.

Monday, June 24, 2019

Monday: Meetings, outlining, discovering my last merge had bugs that no one caught. You know, a fun-day.

Ugh.  At least the bugs are easy to fix and cosmetic at worst, although ugh.  Also double ugh.

The outline worked well, though, and I was able to get parts A and B to output to the same format, which I'm calling a win.

Then I tried to find tiny cans of pop, and ended up going to Target because no place else sells them, I guess.  Then home, dinner, and another episode of CardCaptor Sakura.  Which led to this:
A relationship graph for all important human characters on the show.
Blue is for friendship, green is for "like-like", and red is for "hates."  I'm really unhappy that season three reworked some of the relationship things (redirecting the Sakura-Yukito-Xiaolong triangle; not redirecting the Rika-Terada-san creepfest).

But it gave me an excuse to play with a directed graph library, so that's always fun for the future.  It's a bit unstable to initial ordering/edges, but that's fine.  Snippet:

#/usr/bin/env python3

import pygraphviz as pgv

g = pgv.AGraph(strict=False,directed=True, concentrate=True)

char =  ['sakura', 'toya', 'yukito', 'xiaolong',
         'tomoyo', 'sonomi',
         'nadeshiko', 'fujitaka',
         'meiling',
         'naoko', 'chiharu', 'takashi', 'rika', 'terada-san']
for n in char:
        g.add_node(n)

g.edge_attr['color'] = 'green'

g.add_edge('sakura', 'tomoyo', dir='both', color='blue:green')
g.add_edge('toya', 'sakura')
g.add_edge('toya', 'xiaolong', color='red')
# etc...
g.draw("/tmp/ccs.png", prog='dot')

Finally, more Bloodstained, where I discovered I need another secret item to upgrade my sword again, which is a pain.  I also broke the game and fell out of the map, and then was greeted by "Party Legs" when I got back into the map:

Sunday: I want a longer weekend.

It doesn't really help that next weekend is the last full weekend for awhile.  Busy summer is apparently busy.

In any case, I woke up earlier than I planned, got clean, and sat down to play more Bloodstained.
And that's when I learned that there are like four different curries to make in the game.

And each one increases your max HP by 50.
So I went to get curry for lunch.

It was good, but I'm not sure I felt 50 HP better.

This guy.

Saturday, June 22, 2019

Saturday: I was outside too much today.

Because of a "outside bbq and board games, but less board games than previous board game days" day with work people.  It was good, but between it and getting up late, I was only able to play one hour of Bloodstained today.

I will need to make this up tomorrow.

Friday, June 21, 2019

Friday: Working from home wasn't super productive.

Mostly because I have a pile of things to keep straight in my head, and it's easier to do that with my double monitors at the office.  However, they were repainting the office today, so it was either this, or die from the fumes.

I also did the lazy thing and had groceries delivered.  Then I did the extra lazy thing of going out to get dinner instead of eating anything I had at home, or had just bought.  To be fair, I needed a new battery for my PKMN Go+, which died when I sent it through the washing machine.  It turns out that this time it didn't die completely, but did need a new battery.

It feels weird that it was only a year ago that I was having my last Monte Cristo.
Even weirder that I was in Alameda again two years ago.

Thursday, June 20, 2019

Thursday: I spent all day doing a review.

It was long and kind of complication, but the good news is that I now know how to do multiprocessing in snek with shared memory areas.

There's a dog to match the cat I showed yesterday.

Wednesday, June 19, 2019

Wednesday: And that's when they made the mistake of giving me the Crissagrim/Valmanway analogue.

Do they really think I won't use this wonderful slashy-slash sword for the rest of the game?  Do they think I need to use a big smashy axe or something?

It certainly has made everything a lot easier since I got it.

Since this is a serious game.

A very serious game.

Tuesday, June 18, 2019

Tuesday: "Wait! I have a gun in this game!"

It certainly makes it a lot easier to beat the giant woman boss of level one if I can shoot her instead of relying only on my slowly regenerating magic.  In any case, Bloodstained is about as good of a game as I was hoping it'd be, and even though it suffers a bit from late-IGA "lots of bits and collecting and crafting and decision trees", it's still excellent.  Having Yamane Michiru and Kojima Ayami doing music and art helps give it the proper Castlevania attitude, even if they had to file off all the serial numbers since Konami is dumb.

It lets you dress up your character with silly hats and masks.  The NPCs naturally dress themselves in Church Appropriate Attire.

You can sit in chairs.
So, good game.

I also sorted out the first big block on my new work project, got some additional viewpoints on it, and then blocked out my next month or two.
It's probably not that bad, the major issue is getting buy in for all the changes on the orange post-it.

Monday, June 17, 2019

Monday: I have been falling asleep all evening.

Which doesn't matter so much, but I preordered a game that releases at midnight, and it'd be cool to be able to play a little bit of it.

I did get a new cast iron pan, since I left my old one in my oven in Hawaii.  I also got a grill press, and I kind of want to see if I can use them to make delicious grilled cheese.

Sunday, June 16, 2019

Sunday: I really enjoy lazy days.

They are the best days.

Gyoza help make days better as well.

And yummy katsudon is good too.
And then I got groceries, came home, and did nothing all day long.
I also decided that I could probably use the garlic noodles recipe as a base and add veggies and some sausage to make it a more complete meal.
It was super delicious, and I have leftovers for lunch tomorrow too.

Saturday, June 15, 2019

Saturday: Pretzels are good.

Especially with cheese and mustard.

Friday, June 14, 2019

Friday: And then I lied to the computer enough to make it do what I wanted, and that was how I sorted out what was going wrong.

It unfortunately took me an hour and a half more than I had wanted, but at least I have a justification for my one ticket, and a problem solution for another.  So it all works out.
Just like when you send your main brawler out to clobber a weird pink unicorn jerk.

Thursday, June 13, 2019

Thursday: I finally made it through the code review I need to do before I can start on my own code.

I also finished season 2 of CCS.  My livestream thoughts:

"You played right into Sakura's trap, Yue.  Making her understand that everyone would forget the people they love the most is exactly the kind of thing that will make her figure out she can beat you.  By trying.  Really the only way to defeat someone who has that much magical power is to convince her she isn't as strong as she really is.

"Although, to be fair, making Rika and Terada-san forget about each other would really be for the best."

It was super rainy today.
And I cheated and ordered in my groceries.  I would be less lazy if it wasn't so cost and time efficient.

Wednesday, June 12, 2019

Wednesday: I'm super tired today.

Stardew is again partially to blame.  Along with having like four things to do after work.  At least now I have new glasses.

Me: "Oh, I've never seen this one."  My phone: "You have 55 candies.  You've seen and thrown out piles of these trash."

Tuesday, June 11, 2019

Tuesday: Three month planning day.

My plan is: "another really big project."  I was going to try and avoid RBPs in the future.  Oh well.

Hey!  I know that place!

Monday, June 10, 2019

Monday: At least this isn't strep?

Yesterday afternoon my throat started to hurt.  That got worse all night long, and although I woke up in time for the meeting this morning, I didn't want to spend the day fighting it.  So couch work, which was a combination of reviews, experiments to find a bug (finding an unrelated one), and then some science stuff.

That's a creepy Pokestop.

But now Julie and I are official Pokemon friends.

And a medal.
Still looking for iridium, though.

Sunday, June 9, 2019

Sunday: My other bedroom is mostly organized now.

I still need another bookshelf, I think, though.  Or I need to cull down the books I have.

Reading about big drippy cheeseburgers on Friday put me into a mood.
A mood for a big drippy cheeseburger.  This one worked, but it was really queso fries that did it.

Gochujang pork belly, with asparagus and added mushrooms and onions.
I suspect zucchini would work in this dish as well.  Part of the logic was to pretend it's more healthy than just eating a big bunch of pork belly.

Now I need to figure out how to get iridium in stardew.

Saturday, June 8, 2019

Saturday: That was the first time I've ever had a pan catch fire.

It wasn't that bad, and a quick clamp with a lid stopped it.  Whoops.

The steak came out ok, though.
But earlier in the day I went and got groceries and had late breakfast.
Yum yum late breakfast!

Friday, June 7, 2019

Friday: "Beep beep, I'm a sheep!"

I finished up the things I wanted to get done for this week today, and then missed the email telling me about my Scipy travel from the travel office, so I need to call them tomorrow and see if I need to do something, or if it'll just stay mostly-reserved until Monday.
I did not catch the fancy bird.
There's Godzilla stuff happening, and that made me look up to see if it was streaming, and google said it only was if I paid money, but my TV found a channel that had it to stream with ads.
Godzilla: Final War is exactly the kind of Godzilla movie I wanted.
And then I finished Magic for Liars, which is the best book I've read in a long time.
I just wish Sarah Gailey wrote faster so I didn't have to wait a year.

Thursday, June 6, 2019

Thursday: I discovered this morning that my A/C was still on.

My windows were only open since yesterday.

This weirdo.

Wednesday, June 5, 2019

Wednesday: Miscellaneous work, and I need to order flights and such tomorrow.

Conveniently mostly empty gym was convenient.
I think I have my scipy trip mostly sorted, I just have to do the flights and such.  Plus finish up two tickets so they can be done.  And maybe finish up two other tickets for scipy/science stuff.  Ugh.  I need another long weekend.

Tuesday, June 4, 2019

Tuesday: So many parts of the eye doctor experience are not fun.

Making the appointment.  Going to the appointment.  Having them stab your eyes with air puffs.  Having them shine bright lights at you while telling you to not blink.  Having them put eye drops in that make your eyes all wonky and painful.  Having the eye drops make you super photosensitive so you have to hide like a vampire (more than usual).

At least today was a work-from-home day, because commencement was happening today and they didn't want people cluttering up campus.  That made it a bit better to spend 2.5 hours getting my eyes donked over.  The good news is that I get two sets of glasses with my (apparently) extra nice vision coverage.  That of course means that I spent twice as much money than I'd hoped I would, but will soon have regular glasses (that I will try hard not to squash) and sunglasses (a thing I have never before used).  It's a whole new world of vision.  I also now have my inter-ocular distance (67.5), and my prescription:
So I can theoretically buy infinite cheap online glasses if I wanted.

I could probably even buy octagonal frames if I wanted.

Creepy eye sculpture is creepy.
 Also:
Pretty sure that's not the best translation you could have come up with, Google.

Monday, June 3, 2019

Monday: Sleepy.

Always sleepy.

Today was "Class Day," which I guess is buys?  Tomorrow is something too, and so both days are marked as "essential employees only."  Unfortunately, I didn't find this out until I was already there.  At least this means that I can take tomorrow to work from home, which matches with my eye doctor appointment.
Hand guy.

Sunday, June 2, 2019

Sunday: That moment when I realized that having pulled pork and ham meant I could make a cuban sandwich.

I fake pressed it, which at least helped ensure that it browned evenly.
Good Omens was good, and I liked it better than the book.  Still wish there was an easier way to synchronize streams to watch with friends.

Saturday, June 1, 2019

Saturday: Traffic was bad.

But I got all of my weekend errands done.
And my amazon package was mysteriously delivered to my door, despite the amazon photo showing it had just been chucked by the stairs downstairs.
Plus three episodes of Good Omens.  It's better than I expected, and I expected it to be pretty good.

  • It's a shame that none of these work with Amazon Video.  This seems like it should already exist as part of these services.  Get all your friends to sign up, click the "watch together" button, and they get all the money and ad revenue from X streams.
  • Oh hey, that's later this month.  Cool.
  • Huh.  That's a higher fraction than I thought.
  • I had no idea who this was until his name came up in Good Omens.
