Thursday: So that'll be fun to explain.

Today's plan: have apartment inspection, return keys to work.

The inspector was early, which wasn't much of a problem.  We walked through the apartment, I mentioned everything that was broken, and it was all pretty pleasant.

Then I sat down to read the internet for a bit, and finally looked around for my work keys.  And I can't find them.  No idea where they could have gone.  I dug around in the cushion of this chair, but they don't seem to have slipped in there.  So that's a fun bonus.

And now tomorrow I have a plumber coming, because most of the things wrong with my apartment are plumbing related.  The kitchen sink has never worked well, and it clogs regularly.  Hopefully it'll be quick, because I have to get my car to the shippers tomorrow as well.  Then furious packing.  I realized today that I'm currently using four different power strips for various things, and I have a fifth that is sitting on the floor.

Four more bags of trash.

One big pile of things I need to pack, placed nearly as far away from my suitcases as I can possibly get them.

I prepped all the dishes the movers forgot in the dishwasher to go in my suitcase, so hopefully they don't get smashed.  Plus side: I'll have dishes when I move.

I did configure my (now impossible to get to) work computer to run my rss stuff.  So I can keep that going during this move.  I did have to mark read 17000 items that are from the past.  I also set up my email to work around the fact that I can't forward mail to myself due to that computer being offline.  So today was partially productive.

Amazon...why...why in the world would I need a playlist for being snowed in?  It's the middle of summer!

Last kalbi.  The pancakes were better than usual today.

And I tried to put somebody in the gym that was empty, but it wouldn't let me.  Then a raid started.

I don't really like raids, but it's a Magikarp.  I can take a flail fish.

And I got a medal for it.

Wednesday: Moving day.

They came, and two and some hours later, they left with a large fraction of my stuff.  I think they left dishes in the dishwasher, so I'm going to have to transport those in my luggage.  Hopefully the comforter that is going in one bag will keep them safe.

After that, and a bit of panicking, I went to get lunch.
I wanted something that would be filling, but not overwhelming.  So pho.
Which meant going back to Aina Haina again.  So.

I finally caught this jerk.  Stupid Alola forms showing up all over the place and not in stupid actual Alola.

Followed by shave ice.  With pineapple, because Hawaiian pineapple is best.
Then I stopped at Long's to get water and a memory stick, because I wanted to see if I could get my old laptop to run a wifi router.  Then because my apartment is mostly empty and going back would involve cleaning, I went to see Deadpool.

It's ok, and covers what I wanted: Deadpool tells jokes, bad guys get got, I don't have to think, and I don't have to clean.  It's probably the best way to end a stressful day.

Except no, because then I came back home and fought the old laptop for an insane period of time.  It turns out that the wifi card in it doesn't support being an access point.  Which is dumb, and I hate it.  I was able to get my regular living room computer to work as an access point, and now I have a clean install of Ubuntu on the old computer, so I guess that's good?  The important thing is that I can watch youtube from bed, and without a TV, that's a pretty good thing to have.

I also made a last minute decision that kadatheron, my oldest computer, was not making the trip back to the mainland.  Joining it will be all my old broken laptops.  They don't work, they won't ever work, it's not worth keeping them.  A sad day.

I don't have any links, because I didn't have any internet except phone internet until just now, and phone internet is there so the internet is always with you, whispering secrets and truths you need to hear.

Tuesday: I'm as packed as I can get, I think.

My apartment is a mess, but at least most of the books are in the right place, a lot of trash is trashed, my dishes are ready, and I forgot to do a load of laundry earlier, so I'm doing it now.  Clothes is the biggest issue right now, as I don't have a clear idea of what to pack on the plane.

Last kaitenzushi.

  • No links because I have too many other things to worry about.  I've remembered new things to pack up like a dozen times.  At this point, I think I just need to wake up tomorrow and it'll be ok.
  • Oh wait, I do have a link because I found it earlier.  Elon Musk is a stupid asshole.

Monday: Memorial Day.

Or: The day I threw out like eight bags of trash.  It turns out that you can send a file box down the garbage chute, but a file box full of paper exceeds the weight limit for a garbage bag, so I'm going to need to separate that box into two loads, I guess.

I've also cleared out part of my closet, and partitioned clothes into "the saved" and "the damned."  Since I have basically an entire wardrobe at Julie's, I have very week feelings on keeping anything I don't plan to wear in the next two/three weeks.  It's going to be athleisure and being comfortable.

Build-a-burger was today's choice.  I was going to do pancakes, but they do the big Memorial Day thing at the park, so I wanted to avoid the area.  I then thought kaitenzushi, but I think that'll be tomorrow.
Because I'm not ready for the movers yet, but they don't come tomorrow, so I have a day to sort things out.

  • That's unfortunate.  It's my local library.  I haven't been there, but that's because I live in a library.
  • I'm surprised this hasn't happened before now.  It's a good idea.
  • I thought it was a pretty good episode, although next week Kara leaves Earth to go live with the other Kryptonians?  Without stopping Reign?  That's like the 948,284,204th worst plan ever.

Sunday, May 27, 2018

Sunday: I still should be packing.

At least I threw out a bunch of stuff today, and plan on throwing out even more tomorrow.  I'm subscribing to the "haven't looked in this box in nine years, I probably don't want it" theory.

Continuing the tour of restaurants.

Saturday, May 26, 2018

Saturday: I should pack, but I'm not going to not go to the museum one last time.

Lunch first, though.

Steak sandwich with caper relish.

I caught this Lovecraftian horror.

And then dessert.
The special exhibition was art by Erick Swenson.
Oh look.  I accidentally the cape vs deer sculpture.

Interesting.
Fun fact: Erick Swenson isn't really my style.

Art deco birds?  Sure.

Guanyin? Of course.

Japanese bird + plant prints? Duh.

These guys?

This ancient guy?

This dancer?

Yves Tanguy?

Dodie Warren mezzotints?
Yes.  All of that is more my style.

And I had to do La Tour Cafe one last time as well.

Thursday, May 24, 2018

Thursday: That was a horrible news story, and I'm not going to link to it.

I finally brought my work books home.
Ish.  I left them in the trunk because I didn't want to repack them.

Also, WTF, Foodland guy?

Wednesday, May 23, 2018

Wednesday: I keep telling myself that a week is more than enough time to get ready.

This weekend I have to decide what I'm taking on the plane and what I'm not.  I've also decided that the old multi-pocket folder that I bought years ago is going to hold all of my important documents and things.
The flowers fell off.
I've also decided that seeing people I know from three years ago when I scan my historical photos is always a good thing.

Tuesday, May 22, 2018

Tuesday: I now have plane tickets.

And my car is clean.  This bag contained everything that was in my car.  Most of it is going in the trash.

  • I did not know this.  Stupid anti-vaccination people.
  • Yeah.  They should just say it.  On camera.  In the script.  It's 2018.
  • Heimdall was obviously the entire government.  Odin got to make pronouncements, but I'm sure that Heimdall just ignored all the dumb ones.
  • So they finished with essentially a deus ex machina.  Oh well.  At least we got Ralph back.

Monday, May 21, 2018

Monday: Documenting everything isn't lots of fun.

And I'll have to take one of these "empty office" pictures at some point.
I brought home a bag of books today.  I think at this rate, I'll get everything home in time.

Sunday, May 20, 2018

Sunday: It turns out Safeway deli chicken tandoori samosas are much better than you'd expect.

I thought about going to get garlic shrimp from the shrimp truck, and stopping to get a Dole whip on the way back.  Unfortunately I got out of bed too late for that to happen.
So I said farewell to Kono's instead.
I also didn't see Deadpool this weekend.  Hrm.

Saturday, May 19, 2018

Saturday: I was super productive today.

I said, sarcastically.  Maybe tomorrow will be better.

At least I'm not one of the EVERYBODY on the news talking about the Pahoa lava flow that can't stop smiling.  Seriously, way too many of these people have smirks on their faces while talking about lava, eruptions, earthquakes, and basic volcanology.

I was going to get a sandwich, but pho sounded better while I was driving.

I really like eating most of it, and then adding a bunch of their chili oil/sauce.  It is a good burn.

Friday: It turns out paying a lot of money for half your furniture to be stolen makes the whole moving thing suddenly more realistic.

I got rid of two old televisions, and old microwave, my couch, my desk, my dresser, two bookshelves full of magazines I haven't read since moving here, and an end table that never really had a place, so it collected dust on the lanai.  This weekend I need to keep throwing stuff out, because I had three bags of trash today, and I suspect I can fill up three bags of trash each day until I move.

And then I got a very late lunch and edited my paper.

  • Well that's awful.
  • Best version of Romeo and Juliet.
  • They messed around this entire season, but at least Daisy force punched Inhuman quaked Talbot into space, where his stupid gravity powers do nothing to make him not freeze to death.  The jerk.  I will say that they brought it around at the end, where they decide Legends of Tomorrow style to go grab old Fitz from his cryogenic sleep to replace new Fitz, who died pretty messily.  I love when stories just go "time travel can't break anything" and the characters actively abuse this fact.

Thursday: This is why I'm using movers.

I have been drenched in sweat like 99 times today.  First this morning while trying to find an ATM at Ala Moana so I could pay my car registration.  You'd think that all the signs saying "cash or check only" would be a sign to them that maybe they should accept credit cards.  But that's done, so I will be able to get my car off the island.

The other times have been while cleaning things in my apartment that I am getting rid of tomorrow.  Like ten-fifteen minutes of work, with my fan blasting me as much as possible, and because it's like 100% humidity and crap trades, just that is too much.  I'm not going to be able to get everything I'd planned taken away, but I should get most of it.

Me, looking at this picture: "Why did I take this drunk?  Where am I going, anyway?"  The answer: because this was dripping water at LAX nine years ago.  Nice how things connect like this.

Wednesday, May 16, 2018

Wednesday: Work from home day.

Which means I got most of the paper edits I wanted done, so tomorrow will be largely a re-read and double check day.  I also cleaned some stuff, and called people I needed to call, and did "grown up moving" stuff.  I also got my moving quote.  It's larger than I was hoping for, but I should probably just accept it to lock things in.  They're going to do all the packing and lifting, so I guess it's worth it.

Also today marks the decade mark of going to a carnival.

Tuesday, May 15, 2018

Tuesday: Really should have taken a picture of the shruggy guy I drew in my work notebook.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  • The joke, fully simplified.
  • Iris West is literally the only thing keeping Team Flash from completely falling apart from their own ineptness.

Monday, May 14, 2018

Monday: No pictures, and I'm super tired.

Because I had to get up early to get my moving quote inspection.  I hope it's reasonable, because this company seems far better than the others.

Sunday, May 13, 2018

Sunday: I wanted maple syrup.

And then I chose stickers that looked good.

And it's Mother's Day.
Tomorrow is the moving quote inspection.  I'm going to have to say "don't bother with that" a lot.

Saturday, May 12, 2018

Saturday: Oahu really needs more roads.

There are just too many places that only have one reasonable way to get there.  This was a problem today, as a tree fell on the highway, which backed H-1 up for two and a half miles.  This meant I had to change my lunch plans.

The Mexican place was close, so that ended up winning.

Friday, May 11, 2018

Friday: And that's how I spent $2000 in one day.

Yep.  And they didn't even do all the things I wanted.
And then I picked up $600 worth of drugs.  I guess I have to be happy that it's $600 instead of $15000.  Thanks, extractive pharmaceutical monopolies!

Thursday, May 10, 2018

Thursday: I have to wake up early to take my car in to have all its bits checked.

I am enjoying this puzzle game, but I think I'm nearly done with it.
I discovered an additional benefit of reading tumblr via RSS: you can see who has a secret porn side blog, because they sometimes post to the wrong blog.

Wednesday, May 9, 2018

Wednesday: Surprisingly productive.

Considering I was thinking today was going to be a sick day.

The last meal I ever had at Zingerman's.

Tuesday, May 8, 2018

Tuesday: Actually scheduling movers.

I'm probably going to go with the one that's sending out a real person to do the inspection.  They're local, and seem more together.  The other one sounds like a local front for a California run business.

Nine years ago, I was preparing to move as well.  Bye, old washing machine.

Monday, May 7, 2018

Monday: Sorting out powerful prescriptions.

Which they now mostly are, so I should be able to get a three month supply for the move, so that helps.
Hello Kitty knows what's up.

Sunday, May 6, 2018

Sunday: Pho again, I guess.

It sounded good.
Also spring rolls appear to be the correct seasonal roll choice.

Saturday, May 5, 2018

Saturday: I woke up with a very specific craving.

Did you know that you can get a bacon cheese dog there too?  And that they keep well in the fridge so you can eat it like six hours later.

Friday, May 4, 2018

Friday: Happy Background Check Day!

It's a job thing, I guess.  Whatever.

Have I used this picture before?  I don't have any good reason, but Kate and Pizza Dog are cool.

Thursday, May 3, 2018

Thursday: You don't belong here, buddy.

I left my office this afternoon, and noticed that one of the spots on the floor didn't look right.  When I came back, I saw that it was a tiny gecko friend, sitting in the middle of the hallway.  Most of the time, these are dead, so I got a sheet of paper to try and scoop tgf up.  It started scrambling across the paper, so at least it wasn't dead.  I opened my window and dropped tgf on the ledge outside.  I then splashed a bit of water next to tgf, because I think that's the usual way they die: the AC dehyrdrates them.
Then I added some stickers of friends.
